Heating modes Proterm Cheetah
The gas boiler Proterm Cheetah can operate in several modes:
- “Heating” - you need to press the MODE button once, and the display will show the “radiator” symbol with the current pressure value in the heating system. While in this mode, the unit works only to produce heating, while the hot water supply is turned off.
- “Summer” - activated by pressing MODE twice. The pressure indicator in the heating system will appear on the screen along with the “tap with a drop of water” symbol. In this mode, the boiler only works to supply hot water.
- “Vacation” - press the MODE button three times, and the OFF symbol with a pressure reading appears on the screen. In this mode, heating and domestic hot water do not work, but all protective functions of the device are active.
The desired heating or hot water temperature can be adjusted using the “+” and “-” buttons. The setting is carried out as follows:
- The DHW temperature is adjusted as follows: after pressing the “+” or “-” button, the “tap with a drop of water” and “ºC” symbol starts flashing. The required temperature value is set in the range from 38ºC to 60ºC.
- The heating temperature is also set using the “+” and “-” keys. After pressing one of them, click on the MODE button, a flashing “radiator” and “ºC” symbol appears. Then use the “+” and “-” keys to set the optimal coolant value in the range of 38-85ºC.
The operation of the Proterm Gepard gas boiler without thermostats is not very economical. To achieve maximum savings, it is recommended to purchase a room thermostat.
How does Proterm Gepard work when connecting thermostats?
When the Protrem Cheetah gas boiler operates without a room thermostat , heating of the rooms depends on the coolant temperature settings.
When connecting a Proterm thermostat , it becomes possible to set the desired heating temperature. It must be such that the unit can maintain it, regardless of the outside temperature. The controller will only control heating within the selected range.
Note! In the room where the room regulator is located, radiators cannot be equipped with thermostatic valves.
The Proterm unit with a two-position regulator is capable of maintaining a given heating temperature. The boiler will receive a signal to turn on or off depending on the temperature in the room in which the regulator is located.
When connecting a continuous regulator , the power will change smoothly to maintain the set room temperature.
The room regulator will control the temperature in the room and send a signal to the unit to turn off if the heat level has reached the set value or to turn on if the temperature decreases.
The most modern and accurate is equithermal regulation . This is done by a thermostat with an outside temperature sensor. When such a device is connected to a gas boiler, the latter will regulate the temperature of the coolant depending on the conditions outside.
If the operation of the unit is controlled by an equithermal regulator, it is not recommended to set the maximum coolant temperature - this will significantly reduce the efficiency of the system.

Boiler design
The Gepard 23 MTV Protherm boiler is designed with two boilers and is equipped with a Grundfos pump with two speeds, a SIT pneumatic gas valve, a chromium-nickel burner and an expansion tank with a built-in 5-liter membrane.

The Proterm 20-60 PLO gas boiler is a high-quality and reliable boiler, but it is not very convenient to start compared to its brother, KLOM. This boiler uses a wick to start the burner, which in turn is ignited by a piezoelectric element. So, about everything in more detail.
The article describes the procedure for turning on the Protherm 20-60 PLO boiler, but this is not the “first turn on” carried out by the service organization. This means that there is already water in the heating system, the required pressure is maintained, all the necessary taps and valves are open, the gas supply is ensured, and the boiler is plugged in.
First you need to find the FIRST control panel under the plastic cover. Make sure that the switch (4) is turned on, the indicator (3) is not blinking, and the readings on the sensors are normal.
Next, you need to open the front metal cover and find the SECOND control panel. On it, you need to set the boiler thermostat (9) to approximately the middle, check the switches (6) and (7), and, if necessary, check (5) and (8).
Next, you need to open the front metal panel and find the gas valve and its control buttons. We need to light the fuse.
This is done once, after the boiler has been turned off. This often happens when the gas alarm in the boiler room goes off. For example: when there is a power outage in the house, the gas supply in the boiler room may be turned off, which leads to the boiler stopping and the wick going out.
Find the necessary controls: – Piezo igniter button to supply a spark (shown in GREEN in the diagram); – Burner control knob (shown in RED in the diagram); – Inspection window (shown in YELLOW on the diagram);
The gas valve control is simple. To start the boiler, you need to turn the handle to the desired position and simultaneously press the piezo igniter until the wick lights up. Please note: at the end of the handle you can see three modes:

Next, with one hand we press the gas valve handle in the indicated position, and with the other hand we press the piezo igniter button to create a spark. One press of a button - one spark. You need to be prepared for the fact that it will be necessary to knock out a spark several times before the igniter lights up. This can be heard or seen through the viewing window. But don’t rush to throw your hand off the gas valve handle. To prevent the wick from stopping burning, you need to wait 10-30 seconds before the flame is detected automatically.

When the wick is operating stably, the gas valve can be switched to MAIN BURNER mode. To do this, you need to press the knob and turn it further - along the arrow to the pointer with the flame. At this moment, the main burner should LIGHT and the boiler will go into operating mode.

Installation of Proterm gas boilers, like installation of any heating equipment, has its own characteristics. Depending on the type of boiler, the consumer will have to take into account some nuances that affect the safety of operation and energy efficiency of the equipment.
General requirements for boiler installation
When installing Protherm wall-mounted gas boilers, the minimum permissible distance between the boiler, ceiling and floor must be observed. When hanging the boiler, there should be at least 50 cm to the ceiling, and 80 cm to the floor.
If the wall on which the boiler is installed is made of flammable materials, it must be additionally equipped with a metal sheet with a thickness of at least 3 mm.
You should first pay attention to the wiring. The cable from which the Proterm boiler will be powered must be stretched without bends or creases. Please note that the wiring will only ensure the operation of gas equipment; you cannot connect other equipment to it. Provide the boiler with grounding.

After unpacking, flush the pipes to remove any dust from all cavities before installation. Dirt can clog the Protherm boiler system, so pre-cleaning is mandatory.
If the choice falls on a heavy floor model, it is recommended to make a screed or lay concrete slabs at the installation site. It is important that the finished platform is leveled strictly. Traditional antifreezes based on ethylene glycol or propylene glycol have a higher viscosity compared to water. As a result, the movement of coolant through the boiler heat exchanger slows down. In addition, antifreezes have a lower heat capacity. All this leads to the fact that the antifreeze in the boiler heat exchanger, which is designed for water, at maximum power instantly heats up to the boiling point and boils. Boiling of antifreeze, as a result of local overheating in the heat exchanger, manifests itself in the form of loud noise, roaring and gurgling.
A gas boiler, when operating on antifreeze, can only operate at a reduced power, lower than that specified in the boiler instructions for water.
To slightly increase the power of a boiler running on antifreeze, it is recommended to dilute the antifreeze with water and also increase the pressure of the circulation pump.
For example, for heating systems with wall-mounted gas boilers, it is recommended to dilute the contents of the original packaging with water in a ratio of 1:1. As a result of diluting the antifreeze, the temperature at which crystallization begins will increase from -30 °C
to minus 10 °C.

The boiler manufacturer usually gives its recommendations on the choice of antifreeze in the operating instructions. So, for Protherm gas boilers, the instructions say: “It is not recommended to use non-freezing liquids in heating systems with Protherm equipment installed. The use of non-freezing liquids entails a decrease in the efficiency of heat exchange, higher surface temperatures on the walls of the heat exchanger and its rapid wear, an increase in the corrosive effect and viscosity, corrosion of gaskets and fittings, both in the boiler itself and in the heating system. A boiler malfunction associated with the use of non-freezing liquids will result in a warranty denial.”

Let's look at setting the power of a gas boiler using the example of a double-circuit device Protherm Gepard 23 MTV. This model is an analogue of the Protherm Panther unit. The same manufacturer that produces Protherm gas appliances produces Vaillant brand boilers in another production facility. Their price is much more expensive, since they use higher quality components. In design and settings, Vaillant gas devices are very similar to Protherm models.
The operating instructions say that the useful thermal power of the Protherm Gepard 23 MTV boiler is adjustable from a maximum of 23.3 kW to a minimum of 8.5 kW. In production, the units are set to a power of 15 kW.
It is good if the heating system to which the gas boiler is connected has a power within the capabilities of the burner device, in our case - from 8.5 to 23.3 kW. But what if the existing radiators require less performance?
For example, let's take an apartment with an area of 50 m². For its heating there are radiators with a thermal power of 4 kW. The installers installed a gas boiler, but did not set the appropriate power. A 4 kW heating system will not be able to accept the installed unit performance of 15 kW. The large difference between the produced and the required indicator makes it impossible to automatically adjust the boiler. Then you need to adjust the device yourself.
Note! Experts categorically do not recommend installing a gas boiler whose power significantly exceeds the required one. This leads to cyclical operation of the unit and its rapid failure.
The characteristics of the gas boiler Protherm Gepard 23 MTV indicate that the efficiency of the device when operating at full thermal power is 93.2%, and at minimum - 79.4%.
