This article describes in detail the adjustment, power settings and other parameters of BAXI wall-mounted gas boilers through the service menu. The principles of regulation and power settings described in this article are also suitable for gas boilers of many other brands and manufacturers.

Construction of Baksi boilers

Let's look at the basic design of the Baxi boiler. The basic diagram is printed in the operating instructions for each specific model, but the main components will be the same.

There is a chimney at the top. Immediately below it there is a fan with a Venturi tube and an exhaust hood for removing combustion products. Below is the primary heat exchanger, which looks like a radiator and coil, a little to the left is a safety thermostat and an NTC heating temperature sensor.

In the center there is a combustion chamber, inside which there is a burner and electrodes for ignition and ionization of the flame. A gas train with nozzles is connected to the modulation burner, into which gas flows from the gas valve.

On the right side, a pipe goes down from the heat exchanger, connected to the expansion tank and circulation pump. The pump is equipped with an automatic air bleed valve. It ends at the bottom with a tap for draining the coolant from the apparatus and a pressure gauge; it receives water from the heating system of the house.

A pipe is lowered on the left side, on which a hydraulic pressure switch is installed and a safety valve at the end. Water comes out of it into the heating system. These pipes are connected to each other by an automatic bypass.

In double-circuit models, a secondary plate heat exchanger, a DHW priority sensor and a three-stage valve are additionally installed. The Baxi Luna 3 Combi and Nulova 3 model series are equipped with a small-volume indirect boiler.

Main 5 boilers are equipped with a bithermic heat exchanger, which simultaneously heats both running water and coolant. This is realized due to the fact that inside the tube through which liquid from the heating system flows, there is another tube of a smaller diameter through which tap water flows.

An electronic control board is installed on the front. The electrical diagram printed in the operating manual shows where all the boiler elements and sensors are connected to. Using it you can understand how the electrical part of the equipment works.

A steel casing is installed outside, on which there is an electrical control panel with power buttons and operating mode selection buttons. Modern models are equipped with a display to display technical data and error codes in the event of a malfunction.

MANUAL FOR TECHNICAL STAFF

Baxi Company ( BAXI SpA

) is one of the European leaders in the production of heating boilers and

high-tech heating systems. The company has certificates of the international quality system and organization

production CSQ in the field of environmental protection (ISO 14001); product quality control (ISO 9001) and safety

(OHSAS 18001). This confirms Baxi's strategic focus on health and safety.

own employees, user trust in the manufactured product and environmental protection. The company is constantly

is committed to improving all the above aspects to satisfy the wishes of its customers

Principle of operation

Let's figure out the operating principle of the Baksi gas boiler. The coolant enters the apparatus system through the right pipe, driven by a circulation pump. Next it enters the heat exchanger.

When the liquid temperature drops below the one set in the control panel settings, the gas valve supplies fuel to the burner and the ignition electrode is activated. A flame ignites and heats the heat exchanger. When heated, the coolant expands and its excess enters the expansion tank.

The coolant exits through the left pipe, passing through the temperature sensor. When the water has heated to the set level, the gas supply to the burner is cut off. An external room thermostat can also regulate the operation of the boiler; in this case, the operating cycles will be tied to the room temperature.

In dual-circuit series, a three-stage valve changes the priority of domestic hot water and heating depending on the needs of the consumer.

Baxi Three Stage Gas Valve

The wiring of such a boiler is quite simple, since all functional elements are configured and located inside the housing. You need to calculate the required number of radiators, draw a diagram, and then connect them to each other and bring all the pipes to the device.

How often should it turn on?

The frequency of turning on the boiler depends on several factors:

  • Unit power.
  • Correct boiler settings.
  • Availability of a room thermostat.

If the power is excessive, the installation quickly heats up the heating agent and turns off. The circulation pump ensures the flow of new portions of cooled coolant, the temperature sensor is triggered and starts the boiler again.

Power can be reduced programmatically . It is also necessary to reconfigure the boiler, in particular, increase parameter F11 (waiting time before restarting) to the maximum, which is 10 minutes.

Using a thermostat allows you to significantly increase the time between starts of the unit, since the air cools and heats up much more slowly.

Series and their features

To be able to determine the type of boiler by its name, let’s look at the markings. The symbol “F” or “Fi” indicates that the boiler is turbocharged with a closed combustion chamber. Atmospheric vehicles have the letter “i”. The word “Comfort” means that the kit comes with a remote control panel; the mark “Air” means that this panel is remote.

The first number after the name of the series reflects the generation of boilers, and the second number reflects the power. For example, the fourth generation Baxi Eco Four 24 F with a closed combustion chamber and a power of 24 kW.

Boiler Baxi Eco Four 24 F

The fifth generation Main 5 series is the next stage in the development of the Baxi Main Four 240 F boilers. It includes three wall-mounted models with a power of 14, 18 and 24 kW. All of them are double-circuit due to the installed bithermic heat exchanger, and have electronic protection against scale. Equipped with a closed combustion chamber. The configuration is very adaptive, the boiler operates at a reduced gas pressure of up to 4 bar and power voltage drops from 170 to 270 V.

Boiler panel Baxi Main Four 240

The development of the outdated Eco 3 Compact series became the ECO Four (Ecofor), Eco 4s and Eco 5 Compact lines. Baxi Eco Compact devices are small in size due to the optimized internal arrangement of the main components. They include single-circuit and double-circuit devices with a secondary stainless steel plate heat exchanger.

Boiler Baxi Eco Compact 4s

The hydraulic system includes an economical circulation pump with automatic air bleed. The lines include 18 models with closed and open combustion chambers with power from 14 to 25 kW. They have a liquid crystal display. Eco 5 Compact devices can be connected to an integrated solar circuit.

The Baxi Four Tech (Fortech) line is a cheaper analogue of the Eco Four series due to plastic water supply pipes. The Luna 3 and Luna 3 Comfort editions offer single and dual circuit units from 24 to 31 kW. Can run on liquefied gas. The burners have continuous electronic flame modulation.

Boiler Baxi Four Tech

The electronic board has a self-diagnosis function and weekly programming capabilities. The Comfort series is equipped with a remote control panel with a built-in room temperature sensor. In Luna 3 Combi devices, DHW is provided by a built-in eighty-liter indirect heating boiler made of Combi 80 stainless steel.

Baxi Slim floor-standing boilers have very compact dimensions, a stylish gray body with a black control panel and are equipped with a cast iron heat exchanger. Slim 2 models have an indirect heating boiler of 50 or 60 liters.

To exit this function before 15 minutes have elapsed, set parameter OF 555.0 = 0 or disconnect the boiler from the power supply. To control the flue gases, boilers with forced draft have two measuring points on the conical coupling.
One of them is located on the exhaust chimney and allows you to control the compliance of the exhaust gases with hygienic standards. The second measuring point is located on the air intake pipe and allows you to determine the presence of combustion products in the intake air when using a coaxial pipe system. At the measuring points the following is determined: - temperature of combustion products; — oxygen content (O

Temperature adjustment

To increase or decrease the heating agent temperature, there are “+” and “-” buttons to the right and left of the display (on older models there is a special regulator; turning clockwise increases the temperature and vice versa).

If a room thermostat is used, adjustments are made from it, and only limit values are set on the boiler.

When setting the temperature, do not change the parameters in large increments . It is necessary to change the mode smoothly, giving some time to overcome the inertia of the system. This will soften the transition to another mode and extend the life of the boiler.

User Guide

The boiler is designed to heat water no higher than the boiling point at atmospheric pressure. It connects to the system

heating and hot water preparation system in accordance with its characteristics and power. The boiler must

installed by a qualified technician.

Before installing the boiler you must:

a) Check that the boiler is configured to work with this type of gas. This information is provided on the packaging and on the factory

boiler nameplate.

b) Make sure that there is sufficient draft in the chimney, there are no narrowings, and there is no entry of foreign products

combustion, unless the chimney is specially designed to serve several

devices.

c) When connecting a smoke exhaust pipe to an existing chimney, check that the chimney is completely clean,

because When the boiler is operating, soot particles can come off the walls of the chimney and block the exit of combustion products, thereby creating

the most dangerous situation.

d) In addition, in order to maintain the warranty on the device and to maintain its proper functioning,

The following precautions must be taken:

1. DHW circuit:

1.1.

if the water hardness is higher than 20º F (where 1º F = 10 mg CaCO3 per 1 liter of water), a polyphosphate filter should be installed

a dispenser or similar water softening system that complies with current regulations.

1.2.

Thoroughly rinse the equipment after installation and before use.

2. heating circuit

2.1. new equipment

Before installing the boiler, the heating equipment must be pre-cleaned to remove possible

deposits or contamination (pieces of sheathing, solders, etc.), using for this purpose substances available in free

sale. Substances used to clean equipment must not contain concentrated acid

or alkalis, which can corrode metal and damage plastic and rubber parts of equipment (e.g.

SENTINEL X300 or X400 and FERNOX Rigeneratore for heating equipment). When using cleansers

substances must strictly follow the instructions for their use.

2.2. Operated equipment:

Before installing the boiler, the heating equipment must first be cleaned of dirt and deposits,

using commercially available substances (see paragraph 2.1)

To protect equipment from scale, it is necessary to use inhibitor substances such as SENTINEL X100 and

FERNOX Protettivo for heating equipment. When using these substances, you must strictly follow

instructions for their use.

We remind you that the presence of deposits in heating equipment leads to problems in the operation of the boiler (overheating,

burner noise, etc.)

If these recommendations are not followed, the device will be removed from warranty service.

1. preparation for installation

The first start-up of the boiler must be carried out by a qualified specialist. You need to make sure the following:

a) The boiler parameters for power supply, water and gas correspond to the existing power, water and gas supply systems.

b) Installation was carried out in accordance with current regulations.

c) The device is correctly connected to power and ground.

If the above requirements are not met, the manufacturer's warranty becomes invalid. Before the first start

Remove the cellophane protective film from the boiler. To avoid damaging painted surfaces during washing and cleaning

surfaces, do not use hard tools or abrasive cleaners.

The device should not be used by children, people with physical or mental problems, or without sufficient

experience and knowledge, except when they use the services of a person responsible for their safety, do so

under supervision or according to the instructions intended for the device..

2. preparation for the first launch

Pressure setting

To increase the pressure, a make-up valve is used, and to release the pressure, a drain valve is used.

The optimal value is considered to be a range of 0.7-1 mbar . Usually Baxi boilers independently maintain the desired value, but sometimes failures occur. If there is a constant drop that does not disappear after the system is recharged, then there is an OM leak somewhere.

This could mean either leaking pipes or radiators, underfloor heating systems or other external elements.

Often the problem occurs due to a faulty bleed valve . An abnormal increase in pressure may be due to a malfunction or open make-up valve or damage to the expansion tank membrane.

How to turn it on

The boiler is connected to the power supply network only after connecting all pipelines supplying water, heating agent and gas.

It is necessary to carefully check the correct connections, paying special attention to the gas pipeline.

Using a soap solution, check for leaks; if any deficiencies are found, immediately correct them yourself or with the involvement of specialists of the appropriate profile. After this, the boiler can be filled with water by opening the feed tap.

The pressure should be between 0.7 and 1 mbar. When the pressure reaches the desired value, the boiler can be started .

Download instructions

Download instructions for Baxi boilers.

Optimal operating mode

The optimal operating mode of the boiler is described in detail in the user manual.

Its parameters:

  • Ambient temperature is 70-75°.
  • Water pressure - 0.7-1 mbar.
  • Parameters F08 and F10 are adjusted to the minimum and maximum values respectively.

Adjustments are made during commissioning; additional adjustments are made periodically during annual maintenance or after repair work.

User manual

First of all, it is necessary to rinse or clean the heating circuit and chimney. Any contamination can disrupt the nominal operating mode, which will cause accelerated wear of certain components and failure of the entire system .

The boiler connection must be carried out by specialists from an authorized service center, who also perform the initial setup of the installation.

The boilers undergo pre-sale preparation and are supplied to the retail chain completely ready for start-up. This means that no additional action is required .

This is the manufacturer’s statement, but in practice it is almost always necessary to adjust the settings in accordance with the existing technological or technical conditions. Basically, the setting consists of determining the minimum and maximum gas pressure and the exhaust temperature range, which determines the switching on and off of the boiler.

NOTE!

All settings must be performed by service organizations. The warranty period begins from the moment of startup, and independent activation may be regarded as a violation of the contract with the service center, as a result of which repairs will be refused.

Self-diagnosis

Self-diagnosis is an automatic continuous process that starts immediately when the boiler is turned on for the first time..

It does not require any special actions and runs constantly in the background. Any error is immediately registered by the corresponding sensor, which displays it on the display, and the control board blocks the operation of the unit. To reset the error and restart the boiler, press the “R” button and hold it for several seconds.

First start

After connecting all communications and power supplies, you can turn on the boiler.

Procedure:

  • Open the gas tap.
  • Set the heating and DHW supply mode (or only DHW). These modes correspond to the designations “Winter” and “Summer”.
  • Set the desired temperature by pressing the “+” or “-” buttons.

After this, the burner will start and the boiler will begin to operate. Often, after the first start, an error immediately appears on the display and the boiler is blocked.

This is due to air remaining in the pipes. By pressing the “R” button and holding it for several seconds, the error is reset and the unit is restarted. Several repetitions of this situation may occur before the air is completely removed.

IMPORTANT!

The air can be released more quickly by opening the pump and loosening the screw. The procedure is performed with the power off. The air will come out from under the pump cover as soon as water comes out, the screw will immediately be tightened again and the equipment will start again.

Connecting a room thermostat

Most models of Baxi boilers have the ability to connect a room thermostat. The idea is that the boiler will turn on only by a signal from the thermostat when the air temperature in the room drops below the set one.

Of course, everything is quite individual, and a lot depends on the type and balance of the heating system as a whole, and using only one room thermostat will have a certain inertia.

Programmable thermostats allow you to flexibly set different temperatures throughout the day. Reducing the room temperature by 1 degree throughout the year will result in gas savings of about 4-5%.

In some EU countries, where energy efficiency issues are more meticulous, installing a room thermostat is a mandatory requirement.

Weather-compensated automation

You can adjust the power level of a gas boiler using weather-dependent automation. A special feature of the delivery set is the presence of external and internal temperature sensors. Thanks to the automatic mode, you can make changes to the power without overheating the indoor air.

The most popular manufacturers today produce high-precision and modern weather-dependent automation kits for most models of gas boilers. However, the basic supply of equipment, as a rule, does not include such systems, so they must be purchased separately.

Zonal control system

Such a system provides for individual temperature control in each room separately by installing controlled thermal heads on each radiator. That is, depending on the air temperature in a particular room, the amount of coolant in the radiator will be regulated, and the boiler will turn on only when necessary. The use of such regulation will provide maximum savings (about 30%) and comfort in the room. The only disadvantage of such a system is its cost.

The best choice

The selection of a thermostat for a heating boiler is based on the personal preferences of the room owners. When choosing, you should consider what characteristics are required when using a particular boiler.

Wired or Wireless

The communication between the control unit and the sensors and the boiler for different models is carried out wired or wirelessly. In the first case, you will need to lay a wire. The cable length reaches 20 m. This allows the control unit to be mounted at a great distance from the room in which the boiler room is installed.

Wireless thermostats for heating boilers are designed as a receiver and transmitter. A distinctive feature of products of this type is that there is no need for wiring. The transmitter signal can be received at a distance of 20-30 m. This allows you to install the control panel in any room.

Temperature setting accuracy

Depending on the design of the room thermostat, the room temperature setting differs. Inexpensive models have mechanical control. The disadvantage of cheap thermostats is the error reaches 4 degrees. In this case, the temperature adjustment step is one degree. Products with electronic control have an error of 0.5 - 0.8 degrees and an adjustment step of 0.5o. This design allows you to accurately set the required power of the boiler equipment and maintain the temperature in the room in a certain range.

Ability to set the hysteresis value

The room thermostat for a gas boiler has a difference between the switch-on and switch-off temperatures. It is necessary to maintain optimal heat levels in the room.

Hystersis principle

For mechanical products, the hysteresis value does not change and is one degree. This means that after switching off, the boiler will start working after the air temperature in the room drops by one degree. Electromechanical and electronic models have the ability to set hysteresis. The adjustment allows you to change the value up to 0.1 degrees. Thanks to this design, it is possible to constantly maintain the room temperature in the desired range.

Programmable

The function is only available for electronic or electromechanical thermostats. It is possible to program the control unit to set the temperature according to the clock. Depending on the model, thermostats are programmed for up to 7 days. This makes it possible to make the heating system with the gas boiler turned on autonomous. At a certain time, the thermostat turns on or off the boiler unit or changes the intensity of its operation. With weekly programming, gas consumption can be reduced by up to 30 percent.

Wi-fi or GSM

Thermostats with built-in wi-fi and gsm module connect to the internet. Gadgets with installed applications are used to control heating. This is how remote shutdown, connection of the boiler and adjustment of temperature indicators in the heated room are carried out. Using the GSM standard, the room thermostat transmits information about the occurrence of malfunctions in the heating system to the owner’s phone. It is possible to remotely turn on or off the gas boiler.

Safety

When choosing a thermostat for gas boiler equipment, you should pay attention to the presence of safety systems. Functions are available to prevent the circulation pump from stopping, protect against freezing or exceeding the maximum temperature in the heating system, etc. The presence of such options allows you to safely use boiler equipment in autonomous mode

The presence of such options allows you to safely use boiler equipment in autonomous mode.

Savings and regular equipment maintenance

The basic structure of a traditional gas boiler is almost the same, regardless of the manufacturer. Thermal energy from gas combustion is transferred to the coolant through a heat exchanger. There can be either one or two heat exchangers in the boiler. During operation of any gas boiler, the heat removal surface becomes contaminated with soot deposits from the outside and scale from the inside.

From practice, we can say that it is extremely rare that the system is filled with special prepared water or the water supply system is equipped with a water treatment system. This is especially true for apartment buildings, in which the owners receive a ready-made heating system along with the apartment.

The formation of scale and soot on the walls of the heat exchanger will gradually reduce the heat transfer performance, and more energy will be consumed for heating.

Therefore, annual regular maintenance will definitely affect the efficiency of equipment operation for the better! This especially applies to boilers with bithermic heat exchangers, which, due to their design, are difficult to clean.

Types and causes of malfunctions

If the Baksi boiler has stopped working normally, then you can carry out repairs on your own, without turning to specialists for help. But troubleshooting can only be done if the damage is minor and easily fixable. If you have never encountered boiler repair, then in this case you should not take risks - contact a specialist straight away.

  • the boiler burner does not turn on or goes out;
  • it is impossible to light the boiler;
  • when the boiler is operating, popping noises are heard in the combustion chamber;
  • boiler overheating;
  • max becomes insufficient. coolant heating temperature;
  • when the equipment operates there is a lot of noise;
  • One of the system sensors fails.

Causes of failure of Baksi boilers:

  • moisture has entered the boiler;
  • the quality of the coolant used is low;
  • the gas pressure in the gas pipeline has decreased or a drop has occurred;
  • there was a voltage drop in the electrical network;
  • The installation of the heating system was carried out with errors.

BAXI gas boiler service menu commands

In the service menu lines you can change some settings for the operating mode parameters of the Baxi gas boiler.

BAXI Main Four | BAXI Eco Four | BAXI Four Tech:

Line F06 - setting the maximum temperature (°C) of the heating system: 00 = 76°C (burner switches off at 80°C); 01 = 45°C. Factory setting = 00.

Line F09 - Max. power in DHW mode (0-100%). Factory setting =100.

Reducing power through the menu

The task of adjusting the power of the equipment is to eliminate excessive cycling of the boiler operation in the absence of adapting the equipment settings to the heating system. It is possible to limit the maximum power indicators through the service menu if there is computer automation in the design.

In manual mode, you need to enter the service menu using a special code (not for all models), after which the required values of the gas boiler power indicators are easily set. The transition to the service is performed through the control panel. A similar adjustment option is also suitable for effectively eliminating the pulsed operation of heating equipment (clocking).

All modern gas boilers with a modulating burner allow you to reduce power through the menu. To do this, just study the passport of your boiler and understand how to do it.

Installation subtleties and configuration nuances

We have already noted that the installation, connection, first start-up and adjustment of the operating parameters of the Baksi gas boiler should be carried out by a specialist from the organization with which an agreement has been concluded for the supply of blue fuel and for the maintenance of gas processing units. After applying your own efforts to implement the above steps, you will no longer be able to benefit from the warranty.

All steps of the installation cycle of work are documented. Boiler owners are given papers indicating who installed and connected what. If a malfunction is detected, the contractor will deal with it. If a manufacturing defect is detected, which is extremely rare, all replacement and repair problems are resolved by the gas service.

Please note that these gas heat generators can be installed in heating circuits with any heating appliances. Heated floors are no exception, but for them to work, the boiler power should be set to 65ºC at the inlet to the supply pipe. They are suitable for both one- and two-pipe heating circuits, for tee and radial options.

Steps to connect the boiler to communications

Let us list step by step what gas workers must do during the installation and connection of a Baksi gas boiler.

Conventionally, the entire cycle of work can be divided into three main parts, these are:

  • Preparation of building structures and communications. Strengthening structures as needed. Laying lines for connection, if necessary.
  • Hanging the boiler on the wall and connecting to communications. Purely mechanical work that requires strict adherence to the diagram and recommendations of the unit manufacturer.
  • Performing the first launch and setting up operating parameters. Carrying out the first launch is the responsibility of representatives of the gas company. The user can set the settings himself.

All actions are carried out in a thoroughly thought-out and clearly worked out manner by the boiler manufacturer.

The manufacturer of equipment for heating coolant and hot water supplies the installation diagram with the unit. When connecting communications, you must strictly follow the instructions

The preparatory period includes:

  • Inspection of the premises to confirm the possibility of installing equipment using gas.
  • Drawing up a contract for the work, attaching a connection diagram for a gas boiler with the Baksi logo and an accurately calculated estimate. It should indicate the prices for the work and the cost of materials purchased by the company for the installation of the thermal energy generator.
  • Cleaning used heating and hot water systems from mineral deposits and contaminants deposited on the walls of pipelines and devices during operation. Produced by any available chemical.
  • Laying communications to the boiler installation site. Only heating and gas supply lines are connected to single-circuit ones, and heating, gas and water supply lines are connected to double-circuit ones.
  • Installation of shut-off valves on each communication line. They are needed to shut down the unit in case of repair, accident, or replacement.
  • Installation of a dirt filter on the return pipe of the heating system. It is required to collect mineral deposits that may remain after cleaning and will form when the water heats up.
  • Connection of a separate power supply line. It is used to ensure that other electrical equipment is not connected in parallel with the device, which creates the risk of a short circuit with fire hazardous consequences.

Connection of communication systems is carried out with the mandatory use of seals. All work must be carried out in accordance with plumbing standards.

The optimal location of the electrical outlet relative to the gas boiler is 30-50 cm from the body. Its installation and laying of the power supply branch is carried out in accordance with the PUE. In addition, the equipment must be grounded using a three-core cable with a grounding wire.

Since the operation of the hot water heater and coolant from Baksi requires power, it is necessary to lay a separate power line to the installation site of the boiler. It should pass at a distance of 30-50 cm from the body

The list of measures for installing the boiler includes:

  • Boiler mounting. It is made on a wall with sufficient load-bearing capacity. Fix the unit with anchor bolts; if necessary, cover the wall with non-combustible finishing if it is made of flammable materials.
  • Connecting pipelines to the boiler. It is carried out in accordance with the diagram attached to the technical passport by the manufacturer.
  • Chimney assembly. The connection of chimneys to Baksi boilers is made only with fasteners supplied by the manufacturer of the unit.

For turbocharged models equipped with a closed combustion chamber, either a coaxial pipe or a regular pipe is connected together with an air supply pipe to the closed burner. The first option is simpler, but more expensive in terms of purchasing a coaxial system. However, it is not a fact that installing two channels for air supply and smoke removal will ultimately cost less.

A conventional chimney is connected to atmospheric models with an open combustion chamber. The products of blue fuel processing are discharged either through a wall into the street space or into the collective chimney of an apartment building.

Chimneys are connected to gas boilers with the Baksi logo using the fasteners included with the device. Turbine models are equipped with coaxial types of chimneys, atmospheric ones are equipped with conventional ones, which are recommended to be supplemented with condensate collectors

Chimney elbows allow this channel to be brought out in any direction through the wall. Let us note that exits through the walls are mainly in high-rise buildings, the number of storeys of which does not exceed five levels. In private houses, it is preferable to build vertical smoke channels.

Upon completion of the installation work, they proceed to the first launch and configuration.

Launch and commissioning activities

For the first start-up, the gas boiler and the circuits it processes are filled with the medium transported through them. Unlike most wall-mounted models, which can only heat water as a coolant, Baksi units can be filled with antifreeze - an aqueous solution of propylene glycol with antifreeze additives.

The process of filling the boiler and heating circuit with coolant is carried out through a pipe located in the lower part of the unit. After filling, bleed off the air, then, if necessary, replenish the coolant volume in the same way.

After connecting the boiler to the communication lines, it and the associated systems are filled with water. Then they connect to the electrical network and open access to gas. Now you can configure

A little history

The largest European holding BAXI Group arose in England 150 years ago - in 1866. Today, he controls more than three dozen specialized companies located in Western European countries:

  • England;
  • France;
  • Germany;
  • Italy;
  • Spain;
  • Ireland;
  • Denmark.

Each of the enterprises belongs to the production sector associated with heating equipment, but, nevertheless, there is some division. Some factories specialize in boiler equipment and water heaters, others in components and accessories, including automation and radiators, others in systems related to solar energy, and still others in compact heat and power generators. Moreover, the combined enterprises include a unit engaged exclusively in the development of advanced technologies and their subsequent implementation in the production cycle.

Russian consumers are familiar with the Italian branch of BAXI GROUP through the BAXI SPA trademark. The manufacturing company has been producing heating equipment for more than half a century, including BAXI gas heating boilers, although the factory was initially focused on the production of radiators and enamel cookware, and then bathtubs. The year of foundation of the company is considered to be 1924, the location is Bassano del Grappa, a town in northern Italy, and the founders are the Westen family of Austrian origin. Since 1978, the company has changed its name more than once, joining different but specialized concerns, and since 1999 it received its current name by joining the BAXI GROUP. Today, the Italian factory is the leading enterprise of the holding, producing gas heat generators. BAXI SPA was one of the first to deservedly receive an international quality certificate.

A whole network of branded stores and service centers has been opened in Russia. Here you can familiarize yourself with BAKSI products and documentation, get advice and choose a suitable gas boiler. The equipment is certified according to European and Russian standards, which fully meets the requirements of the modern market.

Recommendations for reducing operating costs

If all operational settings are made in accordance with the tabular data given by the manufacturer, then the equipment will consume energy very economically, generating the necessary heat in the volume required by the owners.

To do this you should:

  • For systems with radiators or thermosiphons, select the temperature of the coolant at the boiler outlet +60ºС. It is worth increasing it only if, during operation of the unit, comfortable heat in the room was not obtained.
  • Adjust temperature conditions in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the purpose of the room. To heat bedrooms and other rarely visited rooms, the heating temperature can be set below average.
  • Do not exceed the temperature background recommended by the manufacturers of the heating devices included in the circuit.
  • Use indoor and outdoor temperature sensors that record temperature increases/decrease. The thermostat connected to them will independently start/stop the boiler as needed.
  • Adjust the temperature of the coolant by the hour using a timer. At night, for example, it can be lowered by 3-5 ºС.

It should be remembered that by increasing the temperature in the room being treated by just 1º, we immediately increase costs by approximately 6%.

In order not to constantly change the coolant temperature settings during the difficult autumn-spring period, it is better to install an outdoor temperature sensor. If you don’t find a suitable model or don’t have the funds to buy the original, you can build a homemade device like this:

In case of prolonged absence, it is better to disconnect the boiler from the power supply, but you should not turn off the frost protection system. It is turned off only for the summer period, during which the heating function is abandoned, completely turning off the single-circuit model and switching to the dual-circuit version for the supply of hot water.

In order to save on heating, you should not cover radiators with screens and heavy curtains. They will disrupt normal air circulation and force the boiler to work at full capacity for no apparent reason.

Also, the equipment manufacturer does not recommend micro-ventilation in rooms, keeping the transoms constantly ajar. It is better to open the window wide and ventilate in one gulp than to artificially lower the readings of the room temperature sensor for a long time. It has been proven in practice that it is more economical.

When using the water preparation function, it is better to initially select a temperature that is comfortable for use, without counting on mixing heated and cold water in the mixer. Believe me, thanks to this solution, the thermal energy generated by the generator will not be wasted. In addition, limescale will not settle on the inner walls.

Reasons for frequent boiler switching on/off

If a gas boiler is unstable, there must be a reason for this. And repairs must always begin with its identification. To do this you need to call a specialist.

But in some cases, you will be able to identify the cause yourself, since there is nothing fantastic in identifying a malfunction. Most of them have external manifestations, which means that it is possible to identify the problem visually. That is, all you need to do is inspect the gas boiler and the equipment working with it.

Modern gas boilers are structurally complex equipment, so there are many reasons for turning them on/off unnaturally often. But most of them are typical, which helps to quickly identify and eliminate almost any malfunction

You should understand that there are quite a few types of gas boiler breakdowns, but they are all divided into just a few categories. Which greatly simplifies the task.

Types of failure include:

  • clocking;
  • failures, breakdowns of automation;
  • low gas pressure;
  • incorrect operation of ventilation and smoke removal systems;
  • unstable operation of the electrical network.

And then we will go into detail about how the listed reasons are identified and eliminated.

Reason #1 - clocking

Frequent switching on of a gas boiler is a classic sign of its excessive power, the reserve of which is much higher than necessary. And the more overkill, the more often startup/shutdown cycles occur.

Reasons that lead to clocking:

  • incorrect settings of the boiler electronics;
  • improper installation and operation of radiators. For example, malfunctions are caused by narrowing of channels, their clogging, kinks, distortions, which lead to a decrease in efficiency. The negative consequences of shortcomings can only be mitigated by eliminating them;
  • error when determining the power of a gas boiler upon purchase.

If a frequent on/off sequence is detected. The first thing to do is to make adjustments to the boiler operating mode. You can do this yourself in a matter of minutes, since all you need to do is go to the service menu of the unit and reduce its power.

This is possible because modern boilers have a minimum and maximum specified value, as well as an operating range.

The clocking of a gas boiler, which is caused by incorrect settings, is one of those causes of unstable operation that can be eliminated by the user himself. Why do you need to find out the access code (from the seller, in a specialized service) to the service menu and, after entering there, use the “minus” and “plus” buttons to set the optimal power value

But it should be understood that the described adjustment of the power of gas heating equipment is mostly fine tuning. Therefore, it can change the specified characteristic by only a few percent (usually within 3-8%). And such figures indicate that if the boiler power value is exceeded by a larger value, the adjustment will be useless.

The cause of this problem is the wrong choice of equipment. This happens when unprepared buyers pay attention to anything, including the power of a gas boiler, which is considered the main indicator, but forget to compare it with the total thermal power of the radiators.

Clock is a problem that is extremely easy to identify, since the on/off cycle is regular and frequent. but it won’t bring much joy. And the reason is that instability is often caused by gross errors in determining the operating characteristics of heating equipment. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the causes must be eliminated quickly, since increased wear of the equipment occurs during clocking. In addition, unsteady operating conditions lead to increased gas consumption, for which you have to pay

And when there is a significant difference between the two indicated indicators, significant problems begin.

Which can be solved:

  1. Replacing the boiler.
  2. Increasing the thermal power of radiators. For example, by increasing their number.

An important feature of clocking due to a significant difference in power indicators occurs only immediately after purchasing and starting a gas unit or replacing radiators.

If such procedures have not been carried out, then you should look for another cause of the malfunction.

Reason No. 2 - automation breakdowns

In this case, human factor or wear and tear of individual elements leads to problems. Often these problems arise due to poor quality commissioning work. For example, this is exactly what happens when the circulation pump is installed incorrectly in the system. As a result, the circulation of the coolant becomes unstable, as a result of which the liquid in the heat exchanger will overheat.

This will become a signal for the automation to turn off the boiler, which can be repeated with varying frequencies. At the same time, most of the coolant remains insufficiently warm.

In this case, you most likely cannot do without a master. But initially, if normal ignition occurs followed by a quick shutdown, but the water in the system is not warm enough, then you can try to start the pump yourself, since it may not work correctly not only due to breakdown, but also if air locks occur, and simply due to jamming.

Oddly enough, the human factor often leads to failures and breakdowns of electronics. For example, an impractical approach on the part of buyers, their desire to save on quality and equipment. As well as negligence and low level of training of the performers who installed and adjusted the boiler or the equipment working with it

To do this, arm yourself with a screwdriver and unscrew the special screw on the unit body. As a result, the system will de-air itself. If this does not help, then use the same screwdriver to carefully turn the blades. If the outcome is positive, the pump’s functionality will be restored.

If the above procedures do not help, then you should definitely call a specialist.

Often the reason for the unnaturally frequent switching on of a gas boiler is a breakdown or absence of an external temperature sensor. As a result, the boiler automation is guided by a similar coolant indicator, which can make the operation of the entire system less stable and more costly.

Turbocharged boilers often experience fan problems. Which is associated with wear and tear of rubbing structural elements, their breakdowns, and clogging of air channels. As a result, there is a lack of oxygen for gas combustion, which leads to flame extinction. After this, the automation turns off the boiler, but since it remains conditionally serviceable, starts will be repeated, as well as shutdowns.

Reason #3 - low gas pressure

Perhaps this is the most dangerous reason for the unstable operation of a gas boiler. Its essence is that low gas pressure not only provokes frequent boiler shutdowns, but is often accompanied by a leak of this fuel, which can cause an explosion or fire.

Low gas pressure is often the result of a gas leak, and this is dangerous. After all, even a 5 percent concentration of fuel in a room can lead to an explosion. Therefore, any gas consumer is obliged to know how to eliminate danger and use them to prevent consequences

You can verify that the cause of low pressure is a leak by a specific and unpleasant odor.

In this case, the operation of all gas equipment should be suspended until the problem is resolved, which should be done by a specialist.

You can identify the location of the leak yourself by using soap suds. The soap solution should be applied to the joints. Where the seal is broken, the soap solution will form bubbles.

In some cases, a decrease in gas pressure can occur without leakage. A similar thing happens when the meter breaks down or the filter gets clogged.

A reason such as a breakdown of the meter is usually easily identified, since hissing and extraneous sounds are emitted from its body, and the readings change jerkily.

Having identified a gas leak, each consumer is obliged to shut off the gas supply to the equipment. Open the windows and notify the Ministry of Emergency Situations or gas workers, which should be done only after leaving the premises. If necessary, it is necessary to organize evacuation. Until the danger is eliminated, the use of electrical appliances is prohibited, as they can cause an explosion.

However, you do not need to replace the meter yourself. This can lead to unpleasant consequences, which could be a fine for unauthorized connection to gas pipelines ( Article 7.19 of the Administrative Code ). As a result, you will have to pay a fine, the amount of which can reach about 30 thousand rubles.

Reason No. 4 - incorrect ventilation operation

In this situation, problems with the operating mode of the gas boiler occur due to reasons such as chemical or mechanical underburning.

So, in the first case, not enough air is supplied to the boiler burner. It is not enough to burn gas. The situation is aggravated by the fact that a significant amount of soot is formed as a result of ineffective gas oxidation. Which covers all internal surfaces of the boiler.

In advanced cases, this leads to burner nozzles and pipe channels becoming clogged, resulting in attenuation.

In many cases, routine cleaning of surfaces from combustion products will help restore the boiler to working capacity. It is better to do this before the start of each heating season, or even several times throughout it.

At the same time, too much traction leads to mechanical underburning. The main sign of which is that the gas simply does not have time to burn. This causes the flame to die out and the locking system to activate.

The photo shows a structural element of the smoke removal system clogged with soot. In such a situation, combustion products cannot be effectively removed from the boiler combustion chamber. Therefore, a critical lack of air occurs and the flame begins to die out. What does the electronics react to by turning off the boiler?

Reducing the area of the chimney will help restore stability to combustion, which is done using a device such as a damper. It is a damper installed in the outlet channel of the smoke removal system.

If the specified device is not provided or is faulty, then such a deficiency should be eliminated. And this is easy to do when using modern sandwich chimneys.

In difficult cases, it will be necessary to change the design of ventilation and smoke removal systems.

Difficult climatic conditions often lead to problems with gas combustion, and, consequently, with stability.

Which can be:

  • strong wind;
  • negative temperatures;
  • precipitation.

So, in a strong wind, the draft can significantly deteriorate, which will lead to underburning and possible shutdown of the gas boiler.

At subzero temperatures, ice freezes on the internal surfaces of the smoke removal system, which leads to instability of draft or its complete absence. In this case, the negative consequences can be eliminated by removing ice.

What can be done:

  • mechanically, that is, simply chipping off the resulting ice;
  • heating the chimney duct. For example, using a disposable gas cylinder.

To reduce the consequences of ice freezing, you should not use a head (umbrella).

If an increased cycle of turning the boiler on/off is noticed, and ice is found on the chimney (as in the photo), then we can assume that the problem has been identified. Since the internal channel is usually in the same situation

Precipitation leads to a decrease in traction, as well as a decrease in its stability. Negative consequences in each of the listed cases eliminate themselves after the situation normalizes. But, you should remember that you can reduce the likelihood of their occurrence by changing the design of the smoke removal system. This is expensive, but will increase the safety of using gas equipment.

Often, attenuation occurs due to reverse thrust. The cause of which is improper ventilation of the room where the boiler is installed.

Namely:

  • lack of special channels for air exchange at the bottom of the doors, throughout the entire building;
  • tightness of the premises, which occurs thanks to the use of modern windows and doors.

And also the occurrence of reverse draft indicates excess draft in the smoke removal system.

All of the above leads to the fact that the resulting air flow simply extinguishes the flame, after which the automation turns off the boiler. After subsequent switching on, the situation may repeat due to the subsequent formation of reverse draft.

In this case, negative consequences can be eliminated by creating proper ventilation in the building, as well as by installing a deflector on the chimney.

Reason No. 5 - instability of the electrical network

Often the reason for the boiler turning off/on is a voltage drop in the electric current in the system. Since when the set critical values are reached, the electronics will shut down the unit.

Instability in the electrical network is a frequent cause of incorrect cycling of gas boilers. And the worst thing is that it is difficult for an untrained user to identify the cause of the problem. At the same time, it should be remembered that problems with electricity often accumulate for a long time, but the longer this happens, the more negative the result can be

And when the voltage returns to normal, the automation will independently generate a command signal to resume heating. This is convenient, but can create additional problems.

The reason is that in many cases, users may not even realize that there is a breakdown for a long time. Or ignore it, since from the outside everything usually looks not as problematic as it really is.

After all, if there is an unstable voltage, the electronics may fail at any time. The repair is expensive, and in some cases it will not be possible to carry it out promptly due to the fact that you will have to wait for the delivery of the spare part.

In addition, all other electrical equipment located in the room is at risk of breakdown. And the most important thing is that such a malfunction as voltage surges is a direct threat to the life and health of users.

Therefore, the performance of the gas boiler must be monitored regularly. And if a problem is identified, immediately begin to fix it, and not talk about how often the gas boiler in use should be turned off. In this case, repairs must be carried out by a specialist.

In many cases, frequent switching on/off of the boiler indicates this. that the user is not paying enough attention to it. Thus, routine and periodic preventative maintenance, which is the main way to prevent problems, is not carried out or is carried out untimely.

A voltage stabilizer will help to avoid breakdown of the gas boiler due to voltage instability.

It must be of adequate power and reliable. That is, you should not purchase a device that costs a penny, especially from an unknown manufacturer.
