Review of the Ariston Cares XC 24 ff ng gas boiler: pros and cons, reviews

Some boiler malfunctions may be caused by incorrect parameters in the service menu settings. This can happen, for example, after unqualified intervention or... as once happened in my practice, after flooding the boiler board with water.

Of course, first of all, the service menu serves to configure, adjust and diagnose the operation of the boiler. In this article I will share how to enter the service menu of the Ariston Class 24 FF boiler and how to change the parameters, as well as give the values that were set in my boiler from the factory.

Before you begin any settings, it is important to carefully consider the menu structure, as well as understand whether you need to intervene and change any parameters. Incorrect intervention can lead to serious problems. For example, there is a parameter that is set depending on the boiler version and is used by specialists when replacing the board.

Considering all of the above, you should understand that some of the parameters I have given as “Factory settings” may differ from those you need specifically, and therefore you carry out all these movements and settings at your own peril and risk.

First launch

JWhen installing the boiler indoors, make sure that all conditions related to the supply of air into the room and its ventilation, prescribed by current legislation, are observed.

Regularly check the water pressure on the control panel and ensure that in a cold system it is between 0.6 and 1.5 bar. If the pressure drops below the minimum value, the heating circuit refill indicator will appear on the display.

If the pressure is slightly less than the minimum permissible, open the tap at the bottom of the boiler to restore pressure. If the pressure drops too often, there is a leak in the system. In this case, you should call a qualified specialist to fix it.

Inclusion

To turn on the boiler, press the ON/OFF button on the control panel. The display shows:

The first digit indicates the operating mode:

0 XX - Standby C XX - Heating

C XX- Pump shutdown delay in heating mode d XX - Hot water supply (DHW)

H XX — Pump shutdown delay in DHW mode

F XX - The circulation pump is turned on in frost protection mode

— The burner is switched on in frost protection mode

The second and third indicators display:

  • water temperature when there is no heating request;
  • water temperature in the heating circuit;
  • water temperature in the DHW circuit;
  • water temperature in frost protection mode.

Comfort function

The “Comfort” function provides maximum convenience and comfort when the boiler is operating in DHW mode, because in this mode, the secondary heat exchanger is maintained in a heated state at a certain specified temperature, even when there is no hot water supply; This significantly reduces the time required to prepare hot water.

To enable this mode, press the COMFORT button on the control panel. When the boiler is operating in the “Comfort” mode, the yellow indicator light “13” on the control panel lights up.

Conditions for automatic boiler shutdown

To protect the boiler from damage, checks are carried out by the electronic control unit. In case of deviation from the normal operating mode, a shutdown is performed. When a safety shutdown occurs, an error code appears on the control panel display indicating the type and reason for the shutdown.

There are two types of shutdown.

Safety shutdown

It is carried out in case of deviation from normal operation, which can be eliminated without the intervention of a specialist. In this case, the boiler automatically turns on again as soon as the cause of the shutdown is eliminated. Flashes on the display

"Err" and error code (for example, Err 107).

After the cause of the shutdown is eliminated, the boiler resumes normal operation. During a protective shutdown, you can try to restore the operation of the boiler by turning it off and turning it on again using the “ON/OFF” button on the control panel.

If after this the safety shutdown symbol still remains on the boiler display, turn off the boiler. To do this, turn the external two-pole switch to the "OFF" position, turn off the gas valve and contact a qualified technician.

Other breakdowns

In addition to those described above, the following codes may appear:

  • 608 - the system generates this error when the fan starts, but the pressure switch does not work.
  • H45 - the last two digits may change.
The reason lies in the NTSc sensor, there is no hot water at the outlet, the safety valve is leaking. If there is no hot water, but the heating system is working, most likely the water flow sensor is faulty or clogged with debris. Another reason may be that the turbine blades have worked too hard, stuck to the housing, this can interfere with rotation, replace the blades or the turbine itself.

The second reason in this situation may be the NTC sensor; to check its functionality, measure the resistance at its contacts with a multimeter; if it is unstable, replace the sensor with a new one. If the safety valve is leaking, the gaskets may be worn out, replace them.

NTC sensor

How to determine the error code if the device does not have a display or does not have a dial, such as on the Ariston BS II 24FF model? This device is equipped with indicator lights, thanks to which you can determine the breakdown. So, for example, if the 90 indicator and the crossed out water drop icon are on, this means that the boiler has overheated and is blocked. To eliminate this, you need to check the pressure switch and its connection to the board.

Safety shutdown due to low water pressure

If there is insufficient water pressure in the heating circuit, the boiler performs a protective shutdown.

“Err” flashes on the display and the error code for insufficient circulation is 10, or 104, or 105, or 106, or 107 (Err 107).

Check the water pressure using the pressure gauge on the control panel; with a cold system the value should be between 0.6 and 1.5 bar.

If the pressure is slightly less than the minimum permissible, open the tap at the bottom of the boiler to restore pressure. If the pressure drops frequently, there may be a leak in the system. Contact a specialist to remove it.

How to enter closed menu sections using an access code

So, if you understand how to work in the menu, then it’s time to move on to more serious things. The vast majority of all settings are protected from accidental intervention by an access code. Therefore, to begin setting up the boiler, we perform the following steps.

Press “Ok” several times until the indicator shows the value 222 – Then hold “Plus” until the value becomes 234 – then “OK” again – Everything is ready!

Now we have one number 2 constantly glowing and another 2 blinking - Which, as you understand, means the following - Menu 2 is turned on and you can select a submenu, and then a parameter. By setting the required three-digit code and clicking “OK”, we will see the parameter value that can be changed.

Use the ESC button to go back and move on to select other menu items and submenus.

Emergency stop

Refers to cases where the fault cannot be corrected automatically. The display flashes “Err”, the error code and the red “ ” indicator light is on. The boiler in this case does not restart automatically, but can possibly be restarted after pressing the “ ” button. If several restart attempts do not give the desired result, contact a specialist.

ATTENTION!

IN CASE OF FREQUENT STOPS, CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER. FOR SAFETY REASONS, IT IS ALLOWED TO PERFORM NO MORE THAN FIVE RESET OPERATIONS (PUSHING THE BUTTON) WITHIN 15 MINUTES. IF THE STOP OCCURS NOT SYSTEMATICALLY OR ONCE ONE TIME, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CONTACT THE SERVICE CENTER.

Temporary blockage due to abnormal smoke removal (24 CF) 6 01

This protective device blocks the water heating column in the event of a malfunction in the smoke removal system. The blocking of the unit is temporary and is indicated by failure code 6 01. After 12 minutes, the column will switch to on mode. If the malfunction of the smoke removal system has been eliminated, the column goes into operating mode, otherwise it is blocked again and repeats the above-described cycle.

Check what

The traditionally practiced reset for error 607 of the Ariston boiler will not help. This is also stated in the fault table (User Manual).

Fan

  • Performance is assessed in dynamics (~220 per terminal). Remove the casing of the Ariston boiler, unplug the wires, and apply voltage from the outlet. If the impeller rotates, there are no complaints about the device.
  • The presence of U coming from the ED is checked. If error 607 of the Ariston EGIS PLUS model occurs, the multimeter will show zero - no fan control.

Boiler pressure switch

Controls the operation of the fan. If the device turns on, it sends a signal to the electronic board that the Ariston boiler is ready to ignite. There is a microswitch under the cover of the pneumatic relay; a movable membrane is responsible for its operation. It shifts with air pressure flowing through the capillary tubes from the fan. The pressure switch is checked by closing the contacts: if the Ariston boiler ignites, there is a malfunction in the sensor.

Causes

  • Clogged tubes. A common problem. Blocking of the channel is caused by the ingress of condensate and tiny dust fractions. Blow and the 607 error will disappear.
  • Membrane deformation. Over time, solid particles accumulate on rubber goods, elasticity is lost, and when pressing on the microswitch, the contact group does not work. The solution is simple: the sensor body is non-separable, you just need to shake it a little and tap on the cover. But the service life after such actions is low, and the risk of error 607 appearing again for the same reason remains - the pressure switch will have to be changed.
  • Microswitch failure: contacts sticking. The processor regards this as normal fan operation and does not give a command to turn it on. Unrecoverable, the pneumatic relay is rejected.

AUTO function – automatic operating mode

When additional devices are connected, in AUTO mode, the boiler power and the temperature in the heating circuit are regulated depending on external conditions, such as the outside temperature and the room temperature.

At the same time, a comfortable room temperature is achieved as quickly as possible, while saving energy consumption and maximum efficiency, which also reduces the wear of boiler elements and increases the service life.

Typically, boilers of this type are set by the user to a high temperature in the heating circuit (70–80 °C), in order to ensure efficient operation in winter at low outside temperatures. However, this temperature in the heating circuit, as a rule, remains the same on less cold days, more typical of the autumn-winter period. This leads to overheating of the room, even if it has a thermostat, the contacts of which open (i.e. there is no request for heating). As a result, too much energy is consumed, and the indoor conditions are far from comfortable.

The new intelligent AUTO mode controls the boiler and sets the optimal operating mode depending on environmental conditions, external devices connected to the boiler and the required operating parameters. In this mode, the boiler constantly determines at what power level and at what temperature in the heating circuit to operate, based on the outside temperature and the set room temperature.

New among Ariston gas boilers - the CARES XC series!

XC series boilers replaced the old Cares X model. Manufacturers guarantee uninterrupted operation of the units for a long time: heat generators are able to provide maximum heating comfort even in the most severe frost.

The dual-circuit gas boiler of the Cares XC 24 kW series has a closed combustion chamber, which increases the safety of the device.

Internal organization:

  • Single-speed fan with pneumatic relay and condensate collector.
  • Modulating stainless steel gas burner with ignition electrode block.
  • Copper primary heat exchanger with protective silumin coating and built-in turbulator.
  • Secondary heat exchanger made of high quality stainless steel.
  • Hydraulic unit, consisting of a Wilo circulation pump with an air vent and safety valve, supply and return temperature sensors.
  • Expansion tank.

Features of the CARES XC model

The aluminum heat exchangers that were installed in the Cares X series have been replaced with more powerful copper ones. In addition, they are equipped with turbulators, which reduce the formation of scale inside the pipes and reduce the temperature load on the heat exchange unit.

Advantages of a turbulator:

  • Self-cleaning effect. Turbulent high-speed movement of the coolant creates macro-vortices inside the heat exchange unit, which protects the internal walls from scale.
  • The durability of the unit is achieved by reducing peak loads during temperature fluctuations.
  • Maintaining the heat transfer coefficient at the same level throughout the entire service life.
  • Quiet operation.
