Canadian Bullerian stoves (Buleryan): review, installation, owner reviews

The range of Buleryan stoves was recently expanded with a line of stoves for baths. Initially, these stoves were produced by a Canadian company, but today there are manufacturers in Russia, and the same stoves are produced under different names: they are also called Breneran.

Stoves for baths "Buleryan"

Buleryan sauna stoves have two operating modes: they can supply dry hot air - the “sauna” mode, or produce more humid steam in the “Russian bath” mode. Modes are switched using a switch that moves from the right to the left position. At the same time, the damper rises/lowers, blocking the flow of hot air to the stones. When the damper is open ("sauna" mode), the air coming from the blower passes through the firebox and through the stones, on which it is even more heated and dried. When the damper is closed ("bath" mode), heating occurs more slowly - due to the heater. To obtain steam, you need to apply water to the stones located closer to the pipe (it passes through the heater, additionally giving off heat to the stones). For these purposes, a long-handled ladle is included with the sauna stove.

So, at this stage, remember that the Bullerian stove has two modes - “sauna” and “Russian bath”.

Design of a stove for a bathhouse "Buleryan"

The design of sauna stoves differs from the design of heating stoves. In heating systems, the air in the room is heated by passing through curved pipes - a very original solution that allows the temperature to rise at a high speed.

There are no such pipes in sauna stoves, but there is a compartment for stones, which is located either inside the firebox (model AOT-8) - a closed heater or in the grate located on top of the firebox (AOT-12) - an open heater. You can also buy a 25 liter mounted tank (hung on the back wall) or install a heat exchanger and a remote tank.

Construction of the Buleryan stove

Bath stoves Bullerian have an outer casing coated with a layer of heat-resistant paint. It should be noted that during the first heating, the paint emits a specific odor (unpleasant), which accompanies the polymerization process, but subsequently no foreign odor appears. The casing is made of sheet steel 2-3 mm thick. The firebox in Buleryan bathhouses is made of heat-resistant steel 6 mm thick.

Not the greatest thickness, but thanks to the high efficiency of the stove, the stove remains in intensive combustion mode only until the air warms up to the required temperatures (the sauna heats up to 100°C in about 40-50 minutes, even in winter). The rest of the time the wood is smoldering. According to the manufacturer, one insert of the firebox maintains the temperature for many hours. If this regime is observed, the oven will serve for a long time.

Let's not forget that almost any wood-burning stove can be converted to gas. For a budget solution, it is enough to buy a burner UGOP-16. The combustion temperature of gas is much lower than the temperature released when burning wood. When fired with gas, the stove operates in a metal-friendly mode. For gas, a steel thickness of 6 mm is more than enough for many years of work.

The developers also took care of safety: a wooden enclosing structure runs along the top of the stove. There are stove options with an all-metal door, and some with a glass door - choose what appeals to you most. “Buleryans” are designed for heating steam rooms from 15 to 30 m3. At the same time, they have models with an open and closed heater, different dimensions:

  • AOT-8 (closed heater) height 845 mm, width 680 mm, depth from 750 mm (steam room volume up to 15 m3) to 900 mm (steam room volume up to 25 m3);

    Bath stoves "Buleryan" AOT-8 with enclosing wooden structure

  • AOT-12 (open heater) height 850 mm, width 565 mm, depth 660 mm;

    Bath stoves "Buleryan" AOT-12

AOT-12 models can have a body that is completely covered with a mesh with stones, or up to half. Regardless of the type of heater, they heat a room up to 30 m3.

In the Buleryan line of sauna stoves there are two extra-class stoves: one of them is finished with a coil, the second (“Breneran-Premium”) has two casings: an outer one made of stainless steel and an inner one made of sheet metal.

Popular models

Model range by power for the home, garage and bathhouse.
At the moment, there are several popular models of the Breneran brand:

  • Breneran AOT-14. This is one of the largest stoves, capable of heating an area of 400 sq.m. Made from steel. Can work for 10 hours. Used for heating cottages and country houses.
  • Aqua Breneran. Heating is carried out by circulating the liquid and heating it. Suitable for heating large areas, workshops, workshops. Operating time from one fill of fuel is 6-8 hours. There is a water tank.
  • Breneran AOT-08 type 005. Allows you to cook food and heat the house. A gas generator stove is suitable for heating small rooms.
  • Aquaten. This is a unique stove with a different design. Its pipes are connected to heating radiators, through which coolant flows. Made of high strength steel. Instead of fuel, a heating element with a power of up to 1 kW can be used to operate the Aqua Breneran boiler.

The choice of a suitable model depends on several criteria: room area, which affects power, type of fuel, dimensions, required functions.

If you have the skills and professional equipment, you can create a stove yourself according to the instructions. Also, a home craftsman can upgrade it with his own hands.

"Buleryan" for a bath: operating features

In order for the Buleryan stove to serve for a long time, you must follow several rules:

After the stove has flared up, add the main fuel. This could be firewood or waste from the wood processing industry. If we are talking about Buleryan, then the firewood can be any kind, including hardwood (beech, oak, etc.). When using Breneran, it is recommended to mix hard varieties, otherwise the fireboxes will quickly burn out.

During vaping, you can throw it into the firebox if necessary. Just before opening the door, open the vent on the door for a while. Then slowly open the door. With this order, smoke does not penetrate into the room (no backdraft occurs). It must be remembered that Breneran and Buleryan bathhouse stoves are only suitable for domestic use and should not operate for more than 8 hours in a row.

After all the wood has burned out, the flap on the fuel compartment door closes. The access to oxygen is blocked and the furnace goes out.

A unifying collector could improve the situation ↑

Heating of the room occurs to a large extent due to the radiation of heat from the surface of the stove. So if the stove is located in an insulated room, and the neighboring ones are heated by supplying warm air through pipes, the heat loss will be quite noticeable. On this basis, experts advise that the first step is to put a special casing on the stove, create a connecting manifold, and only then separate the pipes from it. There are no such oven options in serial production; they are made to order, but this is also not a cheap pleasure.

Reviews

Owners of Buleryan bathhouse stoves note the high reliability of the stove, rapid heating of the room at any starting temperature. But, as with all combination stoves, achieving true “Russian” dry steam is extremely difficult. There are no complaints in sauna mode.

As for a metal stove, the steam produced is quite good, at least, these are the reviews of the Buleryan sauna stoves. You just need to know how to use the dampers and regulate the temperature in the room (do not overheat). The only point of criticism is the small volume of the water tank (25-30 l) with all the ensuing consequences. To get rid of this drawback and have enough hot water, order stoves with a heat exchanger and a remote tank. Such a system can heat a large volume of water and can provide a shower. How it is usually implemented - look at the photo. Only the tank is nailed above the level of the water collection points, providing a pressure difference.

To ensure there is enough hot water, it is better to install a heat exchanger in the furnace and connect an external tank to it

And here are the reviews of those who have Buleryan (and Breneran) in their bathhouse

My bathhouse Buleryan has been in the bathhouse for two years now. With one planting in winter you can reach 80°C. And when you come in the morning, it’s still 50-60° in the steam room.

Nikolay, Kaluga

I have the smaller of the Brenerans. The 16 cubic meter steam room warms up quickly. I don't like the small original water tank. I'm going to cut it down and put a larger container in its place. I don't know how well such a system will work. Otherwise I'm happy with the stove.

Veniamin, Kazan

I have a little Buleryan. The small firebox is terribly annoying. I almost chop up the firewood: very short logs fit in. Everything else is simply gorgeous. But I’m tired of sawing wood finely.

Victor, Zlatoust

I've been using my stove for 10 years. This year the back wall burned out. I have an uninsulated 3*5 log house for two rooms - a steam room and a sink together. I drown from the dressing room. In winter, when there is severe frost, you need to heat for 4-5 hours, in summer 1-1.5. During this time, it is warm everywhere: even in the dressing room, even in severe frosts above 20°. After 4 or 5 years, my firebox began to leak badly. But I stuck a lot of stones into the heater: I put 8 buckets of river cobblestones there. I think this is why the firebox was warped. Then I replaced some of it with gabbro-diabase, and put the rest sparsely. And so - it burned out. But, strangely, the smoke does not come into the room.

Dacha all year round!

Hi all! Today my review is dedicated to the stove Breneran (Buleryan) AOT-06 type 00 stove with one burner.

We decided to buy a stove for the dacha so that we could come to the dacha all year round. I chose and chose, then settled on the Breneran (Buleryan) brand, since there were the least number of negative reviews.

We arrived at the stoves and fireplaces store, the stove looked very impressive, I liked it! We bought a stove (about 11 tr) + all the pipes (the same amount came out).

We edited it ourselves, YouTube and Google, as they say, help!!

The design of the stove is made in such a way that the pipes from below can absorb cold air, and heating it, ensure air circulation throughout the room. The stove heats the house quite quickly. The stove burns wood for a long time, that is, you only need to add firewood once every 6 hours (as the manufacturer claims, it’s certainly not enough for 8-10 hours). But compared to the “potbelly stove”, which needs to be refilled every 2 hours, this is simply paradise!

Now about the area for which the stove is designed. It is stated for a room volume of 100 m³.

At first, our stove was located in a room of about 41 m³, it warmed up the room very quickly, even in frosty weather of -25 degrees it was possible to walk around half-naked. But when the stove reached its maximum temperature, it was difficult to stay in the room.

At the moment, the stove is in a room of about 72 m³, of course it takes a little longer to warm up, but literally after a couple of hours the whole room warms up quite evenly, we run around barefoot and in T-shirts. The heater would definitely not be able to cope with such a volume.

Regarding the stove, I personally tried to cook something on the stove, but somehow it didn’t work out for me, it seemed a bit long to me, and I definitely won’t stand over the stove and wait! Although in the future I’ll try to cook something else in a cauldron, I might like it :) At the moment, water is heated on the stove, a bucket of water heats up quickly enough, and always finds use in everyday life!

And the savings have not been canceled; energy costs are reduced significantly.

No cons as such were found. Of course, there are nuances associated with the stove, let’s say you are going to some kind of buffet, but in the house with the stove there is still the smell of wood, so things may also smell a little like wood. But here it is important to differentiate between your social status, your leisure time, etc.

Pros : Good furnace efficiency; Quickly heats up the room; Adding firewood every 6 hours; Made of steel; Availability of a comforter; Saves energy costs.

Cons : Requires quite a lot of space to install.

Result : We are very pleased with the stove, we have never regretted the money spent. In operation for about 4 years. I recommend to buy!

For residents of private houses, there is an alternative to traditional types of heating - solid fuel stove equipment, used in places inaccessible for gas connections or as an addition to other types of devices to save energy. The recognized leader among the products of this class presented on the national market are the Breneran brand stoves, produced under a Canadian license in Russia, which evoke extremely positive reviews from their owners.

Advantages and disadvantages

Easy-to-use Breneran equipment is used for heating houses and baths, industrial premises and hangars. The reason for this popularity was its inherent qualities:

  • high efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
  • autonomy of Breneran operation, regardless of the presence of gas or oil products;
  • as reviews show, the stoves function equally well on any type of solid fuel;
  • uniform heat distribution throughout the entire volume of the room;
  • compactness and ease of maintenance of the furnace;
  • Efficiency can reach 80%, power regulation is provided.

Installation

When choosing a location to install the stove, consider the following:

  • The distance to flammable materials must be at least 1 meter. If a wooden wall is covered with a 25mm layer of plaster, the minimum distance to the stove is 80cm.
  • When installing a sauna stove through the wall (for example, a firebox in a dressing room, a heater in a steam room), the opening in the wall is lined with non-combustible material.
  • The floor around the stove in the danger zone - 120 cm - must be non-flammable. The best option is a brick foundation or an iron foundation. You can lay the floor under the stove and around it with heat-resistant tiles (if the floor is wooden, you may need additional thermal insulation laid under the tiles). It is also possible to install the stove on a floor screen.

For the normal functioning of Buleryan stoves, you need to make a chimney in compliance with the conditions. So the chimney must have high anti-corrosion resistance and withstand elevated temperatures. Only stainless steel chimneys meet these requirements. But these are not all the requirements - to ensure good traction, it is necessary that the inner surface of the pipe be smooth, without roughness. A smooth surface will reduce the amount of condensation; on a smooth surface less soot accumulates. In attics or other unheated rooms through which the chimney will pass, it must be wrapped in heat-insulating materials. The best option would be to use sandwich pipes, which do not require additional insulation. The places where the chimney passes through the ceiling and roof must be equipped with special passages that ensure fire safety.

Metal stoves must be installed only on a fireproof surface

When planning a chimney for your Buleryan stove for a bathhouse, keep in mind that horizontal sections are undesirable. In extreme cases, there may be one horizontal section up to 1 meter long. If you really can’t do without it, place a tee in the shape of the letter “T” at the turning point, with a plug installed at the bottom of it. Soot and condensation will more often accumulate at the turning point. By removing this plug, you can clean the chimney without any problems.

Do-it-yourself Buleryan stove

The design of Buleryan stoves is quite complex. To make a heating stove, you need a very good welder with golden hands: in the factory version, the combustion chamber has no seams and therefore lasts a long time. When making it yourself, metal plates are welded into the spaces between the curved pipes. (By the way, this is how you can distinguish a homemade stove from a factory stove - by the presence of seams in the firebox).

Drawing of the Buleryan stove

Since burning fuel (logs, shavings, briquettes, etc.) lies on these seams, they burn out quite quickly. This is the main disadvantage of home-made “Buleryan” stoves. If you weld it yourself, it may be worth it, but if you have to pay for the services of a welder, then you need to think carefully. Buleryan stoves do not cost very much, in any case, it is problematic to find an analogue with similar performance at the same price, but their reviews, reliability and reputation are among the best. For those who have decided to make the Buleryan stove with their own hands, watch the video.

If you have not yet decided which stove to install in your bathhouse, metal or brick, read the information about brick stoves by Igor Kuznetsov. It is Kuznetsov’s stoves that allow you to get the steam that should be in a real Russian bathhouse.
