  • pH indicator. When buying these heating devices, remember that any aluminum radiator, even the most “promoted” manufacturer, is afraid of water with a high pH level. Cast radiators

With the casting method, an alloy is poured into molds, then silicon is added for strength. Thanks to this, the radiator sections are sealed and can withstand pressures of up to 16 bar. During testing, the batteries are subjected to pressure testing at 25 bar.

In addition, the vast majority of radiators have fins in the shape of petals, which play the role of convectors to position the direction of the warm air flow into the heated room. Depending on the number of such channels, heat transfer and heat transfer will increase.

Cast aluminum radiators are divided into collapsible sections, so the number of sections can be reduced or increased to increase or decrease the thermal power. Thus, a failed section can be easily replaced with a new one.

How to connect

Aluminum radiators are suitable for both two-pipe and single-pipe wiring. In the first case, the connection of the supply pipe and the outlet pipe occurs in parallel; they are independent of each other and are connected through the final device of the heating system.

With single-pipe wiring, the coolant passes through one pipe sequentially through all radiators, gradually cooling down.

There are several schemes for connecting aluminum devices:

  • diagonal;
  • lateral;
  • lower.

All schemes differ from each other not only in the installation method, but also in the quality of heat transfer.

  • Diagonal. The most effective and common installation method is a diagonal connection (heat loss is no more than 2%). The method is well suited for radiators with a large number of sections. The supply pipeline is connected to one of the upper pipes. The outlet pipe is connected to the bottom one from the opposite side. This piping method is used mainly for two-pipe heating systems, because with a one-pipe system the coolant noticeably loses heat as it passes through each radiator. The disadvantage of such a connection lies in its aesthetic unattractiveness, since the pipes run along the upper edge of the heating devices.
  • Lateral (unilateral). The scheme is similar to a diagonal connection: the hot water supply pipe is on top, the outlet pipe is on the bottom, but the installation is made to pipes located on one side. It is important not to mix up the pipes or swap them. This method is more often used in multi-storey buildings with small radiators. It is not suitable for devices with more than 15 sections, since with a larger number, the far (opposite to the connection point) side of the unit does not heat up well.
  • Lower. This connection is made to the pipes located at the bottom of the heating device. This installation scheme allows you to hide the heating system pipes under the floor, which is beneficial from a design point of view. But the heat transfer with such an installation is much lower (about 15% less than the rated power of the radiator).

Convectors

Convector heating is the most modern way to maintain the desired temperature in an apartment.

The operating principle of convectors is that these systems use natural circulation of warm air to heat the space.

There are 2 main types of convector:

  1. Water;
  2. Electric.

Water convectors allow you to control the microclimate literally in manual mode, which is very convenient. But such systems are quite difficult to install; their installation requires a pipeline with hot water.

  • Heat dissipation. In terms of this parameter, the devices practically do not differ; the heat transfer of one section in both cases is about 200 W.
  • Resistant to high pressure. Aluminum models can withstand 16 Bar, and bimetallic models can withstand 35 Bar. This criterion is of key importance if operation is planned as part of a central heating system.
  • Sensitivity to the composition of the coolant. Aluminum reacts with many chemical compounds present in the coolant from the central heating system. In addition, it is susceptible to oxygen oxidation.
  • Maximum permissible coolant temperature. For aluminum models, this parameter corresponds to 110 degrees Celsius, and for bimetallic models – up to 130 degrees Celsius.
  • Price. On average, the price for bimetallic models is 20-30% more than for aluminum ones.

If the required room is of non-standard size, then it is better to choose a sectional heating device. The number of segments must be correctly calculated so that there are no unnecessary costs or lack of heat.

By volume. It is produced in the following sequence:

  1. Determination of heat requirements according to standards. According to building codes, the amount of heat required for a room is 41 watts per cubic meter, but these calculations apply to insulated buildings.   2. Calculate the required number of sections. The first step is to calculate the volume of the room that needs heaters.
  3. We will calculate using the example of a room 4 m wide, 5 m long and 3 m high ceiling. We multiply the values ​​and get a volume of 60 m3.
  4. Determining the heat requirement for an apartment. The apartment has average insulation without an additional layer. The value for it is close to 41 W/m3. We multiply the indicator with the volume of the room, the result is 2460 W. This amount of energy is needed to provide heat to your room.
  5. Pay attention to the amount of heat generated by one section of the battery you choose. Modern samples produce power in the following range - 80-212 W. We take the average value of 170 W for calculation. The amount of heat required is divided by this value, and then the resulting amount is rounded up. We get 15. This is exactly the number of sections needed to heat the given room.

There is also a simpler method; it is used for rooms with ceilings of 2.6 meters.

Calculation by area. With this calculation, you only need to know the length of the walls of the room. Let's look at the example of a room similar to the previous one, but the ceilings there will be less than 2.6 meters. With this calculation, a requirement of 100 W/m3 is taken, regardless of the conditions.

  1. We calculate the area of ​​the room. It is 20 m2.
  2. Determination of the amount of heat required for heating. We multiply the need by the area, the result is 2000 W.
  3. Now you need to find out how much heat transfer one section of the battery has. As in the previous calculation, we take a value of 170 W. The need for the premises is divided by it, and the result is rounded up. According to calculations, we found that for the room given in the example, 12 sections are needed.

For whole

Calculation of heat for solid batteries does not differ from sectional ones until the stage of calculating the amount of heat required by the room. If in the previous examples you divided the resulting value by the heat transfer of the section, then here you compare the heat indicators. Necessary for the room and the one to which the heating device you choose corresponds.

If the number of watts generated by the battery is lower, it is necessary to install an additional climate control device that will cover the lack of necessary heat.

Both types of calculations assume that the height of the ceilings in the room does not exceed 3 meters, so they will not be suitable for higher heights. In such rooms, the number of sections is determined by heating engineers.
