Functions
The standard system of such remote control has standardized functions:
- The GSM module controls the temperature in the house and the coolant;
- generates daily reports automatically;
- controls the presence of the required voltage in the electrical network of the house;
- the device disconnects and turns on several devices from the network upon command or at the time of an emergency;
- maintains the established thermal regime in the rooms and changes it from a distance;
- allows you to install your own battery so as not to depend on external sources.
SMS messages about the operation of the heating boiler
Additional remote control functions may be the following:
- makes it possible to constantly monitor the pressure in the heating system of a solid fuel boiler and turn it off;
- allows you to control the level of diesel fuel in the tank (or other liquid fuel);
- can monitor the number of pellet granules in the bunker;
- performs security functions in conjunction with motion sensors;
- turns on fire alarm based on flame indicators;
- can shut off the water line with an electric valve at the request of the leak sensor;
- allows you to control any equipment in the house using a mobile phone.
Equipment and functions of the device
Different manufacturers have different equipment packages. The range of functions depends on the device modification.
The standard unit has the following elements:
- GSM controller or module. This is a device with many inputs and the ability to connect additional functions. Budget modifications have only a few standard operating modes and functions. An expensive home heating control controller has a built-in control regulator that allows you to set boiler operating parameters for a week in advance.
- Portable temperature sensors are installed in different rooms. There are also external sensors. Their number varies from 2 to 10 and depends on the type of module. In an ordinary residential building, five sensors are enough, and one is installed outside the building.
- The GSM antenna allows you to strengthen the signal and ensure continuous communication with the user and cellular network towers. To implement feedback with the owner, relays (no more than three pieces) are installed. The device comes with a user manual, which indicates feedback codes, as well as normal and emergency situations.
- Some units are additionally equipped with a lithium-ion battery. The duration of independent operation of the equipment depends on this device. In the event of a power outage, the device automatically switches to battery operation. The minimum capacity of this device should be enough for 5 hours of operation of the device. The best option is autonomous operation for up to two days.
- The master key is needed to ensure that outsiders cannot interfere with the system. Only with its help you can remove the installed locks.
Depending on needs, users can purchase additional fire or motion sensors, which are also needed in the house during the absence of the owners. The package also includes connecting wires, blocks for connecting to heating equipment, a touch screen, and a device for reading electronic keys.
The device has the following basic functions:
- It is used to start and stop the heating system.
- Remote control of the boiler. You can turn on, turn off and restart heating equipment, as well as other devices in heating networks.
- The user can change the operating parameters of the heating equipment by sending an SMS with a specific code.
- The GSM module will regularly send messages to the home owner’s mobile phone with information about the condition of the boiler, emergency situations, operating parameters, and temperature conditions.
- If sensors for rapid response to motion, fire or flooding are connected, then notifications about these emergency situations will also be sent. Intelligent systems can shut down equipment themselves due to a gas leak.
- Protection against power surges.
- Autonomous battery operation in case of power outage.
- Increasing the service life of heating equipment by reducing the load on it and timely adjustment of parameters.
There are also additional functions that make using the module much easier:
- To install new sensors, other relays can be connected to the device.
- You can start additional equipment in the heating system and control its operation remotely using a mobile phone.
- In solid fuel heating equipment it is easy to control the pressure.
- When using units operating on liquid fuel, you can monitor the amount of diesel fuel in the tank.
- In pellet boilers you can determine the quality and calculate the amount of fuel in the compartment.
- Additional functions make it easy to check the boiler feeder.
- Smart home heating also allows you to turn on the emergency siren.
After installing additional sensors, the GSM module can monitor movement in the room, for example, after it has been hacked. After installing fire sensors, the unit evaluates the smoke content of the room. Installing a leak sensor will ensure that the water supply to the house is quickly shut off in the event of a leak.
Remote control of the boiler using multifunctional thermostats
When the house has an outdated heat supply system without any hint of the ability to connect electronic units, there are no three-way valves and other automatic equipment - you can buy universal thermostats on the market that can easily be combined into a branched system into many zones with the ability to control heating via the Internet.
The kit of such equipment includes an electronic controller, where all settings for each zone take place.
It doubles as a WI-FI transmitter-receiver and through this channel “communicates” with electronic thermostats installed on each battery.
Remote control of the boiler using a Vaillant programmer
It has a separate channel connection with the boiler shutdown unit. Heating parameters can be changed either on the controller itself manually or via the Internet.
How to connect a GSM module to the boiler?
Attention! The module is connected only (!) after the boiler is turned off.
"Xital" is a boiler remote control system.
Connecting the GSM module to the boiler is carried out in the following sequence:
- Install sensors. Connect the controller to them;
- Prepare your SIM card. Disable the card PIN verification feature. This step is not required, but is recommended for ease of use. Moreover, the device will be protected by its own code, which will not allow sending messages to the module’s SIM card from phones that are not included in a special list of trusted devices;
- Install the card into the controller;
- Set the controller’s security code (this is the code you will use when remotely controlling the boiler from a mobile phone);
- Provide the phone numbers to which SMS will be sent in case of alarm situations.
- Since the software already has basic settings, immediately after completing the previous steps, the GSM module for heating boilers will start working, and basic information about the state of the boiler and the room temperature will be available to you. Settings can be changed according to your conditions.
Attention! The remote access device only works if the balance on the SIM card number is positive.
Connecting Xital to the PROTHERM boiler
Xital systems are suitable for controlling almost any modern and not so modern boilers. Due to the reliability and ease of use of the finished system, these GSM thermostats are used for control in both private and industrial premises. Protherm brand boilers are relatively easy to connect to the Xital system. As an example, we give a connection option that is suitable for all models of boilers of this brand.
Management is carried out using the Xital system of any modification. In our example, Xital GSM 4. The temperature sensor number 2 is used as a control sensor. It should be installed in a room whose temperature will be the reference temperature for control. This is usually the coldest room on the first floor of the house.
Thermal sensor number 3 is installed on the heating pipe (supply) to monitor the operation of the boiler and turn it on. It should be installed on the metal surface of the pipe to increase the accuracy of the readings.
The Xital system is connected to the Protherm boiler to the terminals of the remote thermostat. To find them, you need to disassemble the boiler by opening the front cover. In this case, the terminal in various modifications is located in different places. When connecting, you must remove the standard jumper of the room thermostat contact (it can have any designation on the board, in our example RT).
After the manipulations have been done, it is necessary to configure Xital itself to work with temperature sensor number 2 and control the desired relay output for temperature.
The command looks like: Temp.Rn=td/tn 00000 where:
n — number of the relay output to which the boiler is connected;
td—daytime temperature;
tn—temperature at night;
00000 is the system password.
Why do you need to control your heating system?
The boiler control technique via GSM is carried out using a special device called a GSM module. The device has the form of a compact unit that can be easily installed on a wall or mounted on a DIN rail. Next, the boiler is controlled via the phone (by setting up an SMS in the required format) or using the Internet, then a special application is installed for this purpose.
As a result, it becomes possible to obtain the following benefits:
- the ability to create the required temperature regime in the house, regardless of the current time of year and while being in any convenient place;
- remotely prepare comfortable climatic conditions inside the house before visiting, because it is more pleasant to come to a country house if it is heated in advance;
- in winter frosts you will not have to worry about depressurization of the heating system, even if it is not possible to visit the country house immediately;
- receive notifications about current problems while outside the home;
- instantly stop the heating operation in emergency situations;
- use fuel in an economical mode;
- prevent the occurrence of complex consequences in an emergency situation, having the opportunity to turn off the boiler at any moment.
Thanks to GSM control, heating coordination moves to a new level, having the opportunity to influence current events while being (at the same time) away from the operating unit. This option opens up new opportunities for people who spend a lot of time on the road without being able to exercise daily control over the operation of the heating system.
About the pros and cons of a GSM module for boilers
Such a system has numerous advantages, the main of which include:
- autonomous operation and remote control;
- updating data every time you connect remotely;
- no need for human intervention;
- sending data to a cell phone;
- almost zero risk of unauthorized access to the control system;
- quickly obtaining data on various emergency situations;
- regular systematization and updating of data received from sensors.
The diagram shows all the benefits of the module that its owner receives. They are implemented through proper device settings and correct connection
But there are also disadvantages that should also be kept in mind:
- dependence on the quality of cellular network coverage. The stability of data transmission and exchange of information with the user depends on this;
- high price. An extended GSM module costs almost the same as a new gas boiler. But the costs, of course, will pay off over time, since fuel and/or electrical energy consumption will be optimized;
- Difficulty connecting with your own hands. If you have no experience, then connecting a module with all the necessary sensors yourself is problematic, as well as setting up the equipment and checking it for functionality.
Connecting the GSM module to the boiler
Advantages and disadvantages of GSM devices
This is what the client will receive by connecting the GSM module:
Safety . The main purpose of the GSM module is to control the heating system and additional equipment, timely informing about existing or possible breakdowns. By connecting, for example, an additional broken glass sensor, you can quickly react if thieves break into your house.
Comfort . Management of key indicators of heating and related systems without the physical presence of the consumer next to them. For example, when returning home, you can easily preheat the water in the boiler to the required levels or increase the temperature in the entire house by sending one message.
Saving . When no one is home, the temperature can be as low as possible, and you will thus reduce your heat bill by a significant amount. And the absence of constant load on the heating system will help extend the life of the boiler, boiler and other equipment.
The diagram shows all the benefits of the module that its owner receives. They are implemented through proper device settings and correct connection. (+)
Thanks to these three advantages, the commercial attractiveness of the module is formed.
And GSM equipment also has its drawbacks. Fundamental, of course, is the high price of the device.
Users note the need to constantly monitor the cash balance of cellular communications, dependence on the operator’s work and coverage. This is especially inconvenient for owners of houses outside the city or in villages remote from metropolitan areas.
Additional disadvantages include: the complexity of self-connection and additional installation costs.
Digital E-BUS
The presence of any built-in digital bus in the boiler provides additional opportunities for control and obtaining information. Protherm and Vaillant boilers use their own development - the E-BUS bus; many other boilers use a data transmission method based on OpenTherm. If you want to get maximum information from your boiler and expand its control capabilities, while increasing the cost of equipment by 4000-6000 rubles, use the Zont device with a built-in E-Bus input or use an additional Adapter.
Digital bus control provides:
- smooth control of boiler power,
- control of boiler operating parameters,
- changing heating and hot water temperature settings
- indication of accidents and errors.
Popular models according to user ratings
The list includes popular models on the Russian market with the optimal combination of price and quality:
- Xital GSM with modifications 4T, 8T and 12T - the numbers indicate the number of zones/rooms that can be controlled. The device is suitable for any boiler, the cost is from 8 to 10 thousand rubles.
- Sapsan Pro 6 for any boiler equipment, you can link up to 10 numbers. Cost from 10 to 16,500 rubles.
- Telcom 2 only for De Dietrich, allows connection of up to 5 numbers.
- The GSM module from Teplocom is suitable for any heating system and requires minimal settings. They ask from 6,000 rubles.
- Vitocom 100 only for Viessmann, a maximum of two numbers can be connected. The price varies from 26 to 30 thousand rubles.
- Logomatic PRO GSM only for Buderus (more often used for floor-standing boilers), the maximum number of numbers is 16. This model will cost 30,000 rubles.
When choosing, focus on how much equipment you want to control, what power it is, what additional indicators you want to connect and the characteristics of the thermal regime in the room.
How to connect a gsm module to a boiler
The procedure for connecting the network controller to heating units is carried out in a certain sequence and consists of several stages:
- Installation of sensors in the room and inside the boiler, connecting them to a single controller.
- Preparing and installing a SIM card. You should disable the PIN code on the card, and also enter a certain list of trusted numbers.
- Checking the system operation. The GSM module software has a number of basic settings that ensure the start of the functioning of the entire system. The user will have access to data on temperature, network voltage and other characteristics of the boiler.
ABOUT THE Xital GSM-T LINE
One board, one device, one small device - a special GSM module Xital, which allows remote and automatic access to the heating system, its configuration and control via cellular communications.
It is enough to install Xital once, connect it to the boiler, and it will stably monitor its operation 24/7. It is worth saying that the functionality of the device is not limited to just turning the heating on and off; you also get a number of other features.
Possibility of adjusting air temperature. You set the command to what degree to heat the house and you can be sure that it will be exactly as warm as you wanted. And when you're not at home, save up to 30% on heating costs by simply lowering the temperature of your heating system.
Versatility. Xital controls the temperature of the premises, protects your home, and reports the presence or loss of voltage in the 220 V network.
Monitoring the operating status of heating equipment. If any problems arise, the GSM module will definitely inform you about it.
Advantages of remote control systems
First, you need to determine the method of future remote control of the heating boiler by choosing one of two options. In the first case, the boiler is controlled via the Internet, for which you must have an Internet connection. In the second case, this mission is performed by cellular communications, which is more suitable for a home located at a distance from city communications.
Internet control
If you install remote control of a gas boiler using the Internet, you can get a series of additional benefits.
After installing the necessary control elements into the heating system, the following options open up:
- remote control of various functions of the heating boiler, including operating modes of the circulation pump;
- by installing the required number of sensors, you can determine different temperature conditions for several zones;
- remote coordination of hot water supply, in case of installing a double-circuit boiler;
- 24-hour monitoring of the current state of the operating heating system;
- the most economical fuel consumption, because during a long absence there is no need to maintain the usual microclimate.
The indicated advantages constitute only a basic set of possibilities provided for an individual heating system. If desired, control over the internal temperature of the house can be taken to the next level by using a more versatile version that uses an Internet gateway and an automated heating control unit.
In this case, it will be possible to additionally control heating elements, oil radiators or electric convectors. Among other things, the list of systems for remote control of the boiler may include a fire alarm, which will not be superfluous if the house is built of wood.
Cellular control
An alternative to the control unit for the heating system of a country house is a GSM module operating from a cellular network. Remote activation via SMS messages in order to transfer information to the control panel of the water heating boiler has personal advantages:
- small dimensions of the device that interacts with a smartphone;
- mobility – easy to install in any suitable location;
- ease of operation;
- For insurance, you can use two communication lines at once; the device is designed to install an additional SIM card.
This device is used when it is not possible to connect to the Internet. This quality allows the use of a remote control unit for a gas boiler even in remote areas.
Programmers and thermostats are the main heating control elements
Heating programmer
To organize autonomous heat supply, you will need electronic devices. They may have a heating boiler control panel and the ability to simultaneously change steam meters in several connected components.
These devices are called programmers or electronic thermostats. Like other similar devices, they can have heating control via SMS or the Internet. But these are just additional functions. To select the optimal model, you need to know the basic functional qualities of the programmer:
- Number of connected circuits. Can vary from 1 to 12. An additional module is installed to increase the number of connectors;
- System operating modes. Depending on the settings, you can set the control of heating radiators in economy, normal and comfortable modes;
- Plug-in module – heating control by phone. The GSM station transmits the required information via SMS - coolant temperature, emergency mode notification, etc.;
- The presence of radio transmitters to create wireless communication channels between connected heating components.
Connecting the programmer to the boiler
But in addition to local devices, there are also zonal ones, installed on specific components - boilers, radiators. By controlling heating via the Internet using these devices, you can regulate the degree of water heating in the system and the temperature regime in a specific battery. Often such devices are called not programmers, but electronic thermostats.
They are more affordable and easy to install. Thermostats do not require a heating control cabinet, which reduces the complexity of installation. In some cases, it is possible to connect several thermostats to a single control unit.
What should you consider when creating a smart heating budget? In addition to the cost of the control element, you need to know the approximate price of consumables - communication wires, heating control panel. The latter is necessary when installing a system consisting of several blocks - a programmer, a GSM module, expansion strips for additional contactors.
Model | Purpose | Cost, rub. |
Computherm Q3 | Wired thermostat | 1625 |
Computherm Q3 RF | Wireless thermostat | 3367 |
PROTHERM Kromschroder E8.4401 | Programmer. Control of 4 boilers, DHW, 15 heating circuits | 34533 |
Heating control panel | RCD, boiler control units, connection to temperature sensors | From 7000 |
It is also important to consider the location - the heating control box should be installed in an accessible place. Its installation in a boiler room is not recommended, although this is the simplest option in terms of labor intensity.
It is best to install it in a living room. Then it will be possible to monitor and change system parameters much more often.
Module connection diagram
The GSM module should be installed at a point from where the necessary sensors and interfaces can be connected using the most optimal route. The following should be taken into account:
- The length of the line to the temperature sensor can be from 1 to 100 meters, depending on the functionality of the module.
- The communication line with the boiler for control (feedback) should be as short as possible, especially if the module will switch the power supply to the boiler.
- There must be cellular coverage at the installation site. As an option, an external antenna is used, then the limitation concerns the cable length.
In any case, the most reasonable thing would be to install it directly next to the boiler. But at a minimum distance of at least 1.5 meters and at a height above 50 cm, so that there is no risk of water entering even in the event of an accident.
For convenience or if necessary, the unit is installed outside the boiler room, in a heated room, where there is free access to it for adjustments or observations. Some models are equipped with informative LCD screens, where the parameters of the heating system are clearly visible and it is possible to quickly make changes using a simple navigation menu.
The module is connected to the power supply using a separate power line from the panel and terminal block, or simply to the nearest outlet using a wire and plug. The sensors are connected with wires according to the manufacturer's instructions. In this case, it is important to observe the cross-section of the wire and the material from which it is made. Manufacturers often require the use of coaxial cable to connect sensors with full shielding, especially when the remote sensor is located at a significant distance.
The module often contains a set of terminals with symbols under a protective cover. According to the instructions, color or mnemonic markings are used to determine the terminals for connecting sensors, signal and control wires from the heating boiler.
After the wires are connected and placed in a box or protective corrugated pipe, you can begin setting up. The ranges for the sensors are set, the signal lines are set, and the actions that the control device takes when receiving signals are set.
The main point is to set a telephone number or even two to which the module will transmit readings and from which it will receive settings and commands.
How to choose
A GSM module for heating boilers should be chosen based on its main and additional functions, as well as technical parameters:
As for the controls, adjustments are made using buttons on the touch panel and SMS commands sent from the smartphone. Programmers from reputable companies are controlled by special software. The companies Viessmann (Visman) and Buderus (Buderus) produce programs for the Android (Android) and iOS (iPhone) systems, which make it possible to obtain instant remote access to the heating unit
When purchasing, you should pay attention to the standard set of the device. Based on the selected model, GSM may have automatic gas level control, a remote room temperature sensor
Look at the number of tuning channels. It is this indicator that affects the number of included temperature sensors and other equipment. Conventional models have two channels, one of which is used when connecting an external regulator - remote control of a gas boiler by module. The second is used to send a signal via SMS. Now about the microprocessor. Cheaper models contain only a couple of basic functions and operating modes. More expensive devices contain a built-in control regulator for a week. This remote control of the heating boiler operates from the electrical network, so you should pay attention to the battery. If the voltage suddenly turns off, the power will automatically transfer to the battery. The battery capacity should be enough for good independent operation of the GSM module for several hours. During frequent power outages, purchase a battery with a larger capacity.
Manufacturers
GSM boiler control can be offered on the market by manufacturers of heating boilers and independent companies that are aimed specifically at producing automation.
The difference between general automated systems is flexibility, connecting several types of devices for parallel maintenance. That is, they will be an excellent option for any heating unit and will be able to service, for example, a security system and household equipment in the house at the same time.
The choice will be made from such well-known models and manufacturers as Evan, Vaillant, Viessmann, Protherm, Xital, Buderus. All have a standard set of functions for connecting several temperature sensors and monitoring the operation of the boiler, the air temperature in the rooms and outside the window.
Manufacturing company | Model | Average price, rub. |
Vaillant | ZONT H-1 (Evan) | 8 400 |
Viessmann | Vitocom 100 module (type GSM2) | 13 200 |
Buderus | Buderus Logamatic Easycom (PRO) | 65 000 (270 000) |
Protherm | GSM module for Protherm boiler | 7 500 |
Telemetrics | GSM module for boiler GSM thermometer | 8 800 |
Xital | GSM-4T | 7,700 rub. |
Xital | GSM-8T | 8,200 rub. |
Xital | GSM-12T | 8 400 |
Evan | GSM-Climate | 7 500 |
Remote control of the boiler is quite convenient and rational. After all, the GSM module allows you not only to control the heating system from a distance, but also to save money and be aware of all emerging problems.
Advantages
- In addition to monitoring the functioning of heating equipment components, Ksital GSM 4T alarms allow you to notify using SMS messages and voice dialing about the activation of sensors connected to the inputs of the Ksital 4T electronic unit. These could be motion sensors, window/door opening sensors, glass break sensors, sensors for gas leaks, water, smoke, etc. How to connect the sensors to the alarm system is described in the instructions included in the package.
- The text in the SMS message can be individual for each of the available inputs. It adapts to the type of sensor that is connected to the corresponding input. If necessary, text messages can be duplicated with a voice call with an “Alarm” notification. SMS messages are sent to telephone numbers that are recorded in the SIM card memory during the setup of Xital GSM 4T.
- To control the operation of equipment controlled by GSM signaling, special service SMS messages are used. They act on a controller that turns on or off a relay system controlled by external mechanisms. For correct use by Xital GSM 4T service teams, the operating instructions describe in detail their correct spelling and functional purpose.

How does the alarm work?
Xital GSM 4T systems include one built-in and 5 remote temperature sensors that continuously measure the temperature in the room. The electronic unit owned by the Xital GSM alarm system collects information from all sensors and analyzes it in accordance with a special algorithm.
If the temperature in one of the zones controlled by temperature sensors goes beyond the established limits, a danger alert will be sent to selected phone numbers. Devices of this series allow simultaneous control of 4 zones. To increase the number of controlled zones, the Xital 12T series alarm can be used.
To increase the fault tolerance and reliability of systems that control heating equipment and the situation at the facility, the use of 2 Xital systems, which are used as “partner devices,” is practiced. For example, Xital GSM 12T can be used together with Xital 4T - the instructions describe in detail the possibility of paired use of two alarms.
What actuators are connected?
GSM alarm system Xital GSM 4T allows you to connect up to 3 actuators. These can be sound sirens, light emitters, valves and locking mechanisms, control devices for air conditioning systems, forced ventilation, smoke removal, etc.
Connected devices are controlled automatically using a microcontroller equipped with the Xital GSM 4T alarm system or through service SMS commands sent from a mobile phone.
Who can carry out the installation?
Installation of Xital GSM 4T is carried out by specially trained specialists from companies that specialize in installing fire and security systems.
In addition, users who are “well acquainted” with electronics can independently install and configure the Xital GSM 4 alarm system - the instructions will help to carry out these procedures quickly and accurately.

Features of operation
Automatic boiler control can be installed on any boiler, regardless of the fuel used. When installing a GSM boiler control module, the operating features of each type of boiler are taken into account, the operating mode of the equipment and resource consumption are optimized.
- In pellet boilers (which use wood pellets as fuel), the device can automatically adjust the fuel supply to the firebox; the system will signal a power outage or burner extinguishment.
- During operation of electric boilers, the controller will monitor the voltage in the system and give alarms in the event of a sharp decrease in power.
- Diesel boilers are most often used for heating large industrial premises, and the equipment itself can combine several units. The GSM module for heating boilers allows you to combine incoming information about the condition of boilers in one center, reducing the maintenance staff to 1 person. The system will regularly, timely send signals about the need to refill the tanks.

Rating: Manufacturers and models of GSM modules
A mobile phone can be used as a remote control in a remote access system. To do this, just insert the SIM card into your mobile phone and connect it to the boiler.
Each device contains instructions for use, as well as instructions for installing the module
To purchase such a module yourself, it is recommended to pay attention to the rating. It presents a selection of models for home use from various manufacturers
In addition to them, devices from the companies Wolf, Baxi, Buderus, Navien, Protherm, Vaillant are considered good products.
"Kotel OK"
The most popular on the market, one of the best and most inexpensive GSM modules for heating boilers made in Russia. In addition to the price, it is distinguished by its compact size, extremely simple and easy setup, and the presence of an application that can send commands, including in the form of SMS, which is an excellent option that allows you not to use tariffs with Internet access.
The functionality of the device is quite simple, the minimum required: temperature control, setting alerts, checking boiler operating parameters, and the module also has a built-in relay that allows you to turn the boiler on and off.
Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting a rather simple application with the minimum required functionality and an outdated interface, the presence of an external temperature sensor with a cable length of only 0.5 meters, which does not imply its installation in other rooms remote from the boiler room. The antenna is also not remote, screwed into the device via a threaded connection.
Cost: 3,990 rub.
XITAL GSM 4T
Another well-known, more professional and versatile device with a much richer package. The heating control functionality in it is approximately the same as in the previous “Boiler OK” - the minimum required, however, there are as many as 4 zones for additional devices (flow sensor, smoke sensor, motion sensor, flood sensor, door opening sensor, etc.). Also included is an electronic key and a reader (similar to those installed in intercoms), so you can influence the settings, if desired, only with an electronic key.
The main difference is the presence in the kit of two remote temperature sensors with a wire length of 10 m, as well as a remote wired antenna and a cord for connecting a backup external battery (unfortunately, there is no built-in one). Management and control can be carried out both via SMS and through the application.
The disadvantages, in addition to the lack of a built-in battery, are the ineffective and inconvenient, although understandable, application interface, less attractive appearance with exposed terminals and large dimensions
Please note that for heating you must choose a model with a “T” at the end
Cost: 8,640 rub.
EVAN GSM CLIMATE
Also known as ZONT H-1, it features a more modern and convenient application, with ready-made “Economy” and “Comfort” modes, as well as the ability to program boiler operating parameters. It is enough to configure the boiler operating pattern once and the module will automatically issue commands to the boiler to change parameters depending on the time or day of the week. Control via a web interface is also available. The standard package includes one remote temperature sensor and a remote antenna.
Perhaps the only drawbacks are the lack of a built-in battery and only one contact for connecting an external temperature sensor.
Cost: 6,780-8,840 rub.
ZONT H-1V
A more advanced analogue of the previous GSM CLIMATE (ZONT H-1). Despite its less attractive appearance, it has an additional “Anti-Freeze” mode and a built-in battery for autonomous operation during power outages. Number of connected temperature sensors – up to 10 pcs.
Otherwise, due to the same firmware, everything is similar to the previous model: the same control via SMS, application or web interface, which, by the way, is one of the most convenient and functional, with statistics. The kit still includes one remote temperature sensor and a remote wired antenna.
Cost: 7,400-9,200 rubles.
What is included in the GSM kit
The contents depend on the manufacturer and model of the product. The following parts are included as standard.
Controller (GSM module) is a device with a different number of inputs, expandable if you need to connect additional functions. Models in the low price segment contain a couple of standard functions and operating modes. More expensive devices have a pre-built control regulator for a week.
Portable temperature sensors, from two to ten - it depends on the type of module. Designed for different rooms, including outdoor ones. The optimal number is five, provided that one of them will be on the street.
Standard type of heat sensor (outdoor and room) for regulating temperature indicators in the entire house or in certain rooms
A GSM antenna is required to strengthen the signal. She is responsible for establishing uninterrupted communication with the owner of the equipment and with the towers of the cellular operator.
Through a relay (in most models up to 3 pcs.) feedback is provided to the owner. In the user manual for all modules there is a list of codes that characterize all normal and abnormal situations and codes for feedback.

Additional sensors (such as motion and fire) are also required. More often, users independently purchase them depending on their needs.
The battery may be additionally present in some models. Manufacturers most often use lithium-ion. This is an important component because battery life depends on it. If the voltage is turned off, the power will automatically transfer to the battery.
The battery capacity should be enough for full operation of the GSM module for at least five hours, preferably up to two days. If you know that power outages occur frequently in your area, then it makes sense to purchase a battery with a larger capacity.
The master key prevents third parties from interfering with the heating system and removes the locks you have set.

In addition, the kit includes an electronic key reader, a touch screen, connectors for connecting to the boiler, and coils of connecting wires. If necessary, you can purchase additional components or “assemble” the set to suit your needs.
Installation features from the consumer's point of view
Whoever installs the GSM module (you yourself or a specialist), be sure to make sure that these conditions are met:
- Optimal humidity is maintained at the installation site, as when installing the boiler;
- if there is no portable antenna, then check that there is nothing obstructing the signal transmission, for example, a concrete ceiling;
- pay attention to the length of the antenna cable if you need to take it to another location;
- connect the module when the boiler is turned off and through an RCD in order to protect the equipment from power surges;
- Check in advance that the distance between the temperature sensor and the controller is no more than one hundred meters - for better communication.
At the beginning of work, you must enter the phone numbers to which information will be sent. Then you will receive a verification code in the form of an SMS.
When you purchase a new card, immediately top up your account with at least 300 rubles and ask the operator to turn off all messages with paid advertising so that it does not take up space and confuse the controller. Please note that the cellular operator in the area where such a module is installed must have an uninterrupted signal.
To connect to the module, you can use a SIM card from any cellular operator. The main thing is to make sure the continuity and quality of the signal
After installation, be sure to test the operation of the GSM module. Let someone go outside with the phone, and someone stay in the house. It is important to check how quickly messages will be received when certain changes in boiler operation occur.
The phone receives an automatic SMS report on the status of the boiler and other key indicators of the system. Hints help you set up your equipment correctly
It is also necessary to configure the temperature regime, which is regulated by street and room sensors. Before doing this, please note that the documentation for the boiler indicates the minimum and maximum temperatures at which it will operate without failure.
The room sensor is responsible for the thermal conditions inside the room. In some models it can be set for the whole week. For example, on weekdays, three types of temperature settings are relevant: in the morning and evening - high, because everyone is at home, during the day - low, at night - also low or closer to average for a comfortable sleep.
When the weather changes, the user of the gsm module can remotely change the air temperature in the entire house using a special application on the tablet (phone)
Everyone is at home on the weekend, so choose the heating that is most comfortable for the whole family. This mode is called “general”. If you want to set the temperature in individual rooms, then turn on “zonal”. It is responsible for heating the air in individual rooms.
In the “vacation” mode (the names of the modes differ among different manufacturers), the temperature is at the very minimum. In this case, you can remotely control the autonomous unit to change the temperature.
For example, while on the way home, send an SMS with a special code or simply enter the required number to change the temperature mode.
If plans change, the user can always remotely adjust a comfortable temperature regime and return to a warm home
If a boiler is also connected to the system, then you can change not only the water temperature, but also the heating system. When switching to summer mode, the boiler does not turn off, but operates at minimum power.
Please note that there is an “anti-freeze” mode, which turns on the boiler from time to time to maintain the correct operation of the entire heating system.
The outdoor sensor reacts to changes in temperature outside the window. Experts call this mode the most promising. If the temperature drops, the boiler automatically raises the temperature.
After installation, also test the feedback from the autonomous heating. To do this, send a message with a command code.
When a user sends an SMS with a code (feedback function), he receives a response with performance indicators of the heating system
Technically, communication is realized through a relay, which is directly connected to the gas boiler.
What are the capabilities of the GSM module?
There are several factors that affect the functionality of the remote control unit. These include:
- whether a rack unit is present (allows you to switch modes and supports feedback);
- the purpose of the connected sensors and the number of zones that are monitored;
- controller firmware version (this allows you to expand functionality).
GSM module
If we talk about the basic configuration, then the devices described in it are capable of the following:
- temperature monitoring, data transmission to the user;
- power supply or power outage.
A sample report in a mobile phone program about the life of the boiler when the standard mode is activated (indicated by the user as “0”)
And in the following cases, information can be sent to the user’s phone via a regular call or SMS message:
- limit temperature reached. The user can be informed about a sudden cooling of the coolant or an increase in its temperature;
- the user sent a specific request. As a result, information is supplied to it from connected external sensors.

As for the extended configuration, in addition to the basic capabilities, it may also contain the following functions:
- setting the temperature and response thresholds;
- turning on the electric drive of the entrance gate;
- controlling the operation of the heating boiler, adjusting the water temperature;
- listening to rooms via a connected microphone;
- exchange of information about the supply of electricity;
- sending signals about the activation of auxiliary sensors and the security system;
- adjusting the power of the heating device taking into account changing weather conditions.

Xital GSM. Installation, connection to boilers, review
1. When a zone is violated, the Xital GSM-4T (8T, 12T) will turn on the siren for ALL violations of all zones, even if you set “1” or “2” to the zone. Those. water leaked, there was an accident in the bio-sewage system, the network went off and the siren screamed, raping you and your neighbors. You can smooth out this problem a little in two ways: A. Turn off the siren during your presence at the dacha by automatically turning on relay No. 1 Xital-GSM when you put the system under control. B. Reduce the volume of the siren.
1a. However: new information, now when you install the number 3 (instead of 1 or 2) on any zone, the siren will not turn on when the zone is violated, and an SMS from Xital-GSM will come, and the counter for up to 4 violations is disabled. In response to this question, Ksital’s technical support confirmed the availability of this feature in some models. This function is not described in the documentation because it has not been fully tested and the manufacturer does not want to be held responsible. They couldn’t tell me exactly the dates from which this function operates in Xital GSM, but approximately from the end of 2010 - beginning of 2011, and in the newest systems it is already documented. Everyone can check and let everyone know. My release date is February 25, 2011 and the number “3” works, as I wrote above.
2. If you send two SMS messages in a row to Xital, the second one is not always executed. You have to wait for the result of the first and only then send the second. Similarly, if you make a request for a report using a “voice” call, the report will not arrive if Xital-GSM has not yet performed some action by that moment. Like that.
3. About monitoring the loop resistance of the Xital GSM system. If, at the time of putting the system under control, or sending it the “N50(.)password” command, some sensor does not provide the required 1.6 Volts +-25% at the input (for new systems - 6.5V +-25 %) system, then Xital-GSM will send an SMS “Unacceptable loop resistance”. This is good and very correct. What is wrong is that it is not known what kind of train we are talking about. You have to take a tester and check the voltage at each input (or remember where you did something wrong). Even if you immediately request a general report, you will still receive all the letters “n” via SMS.
6. I do not recommend putting a SIM card into the SIM-2 reader when the SIM-1 reader is empty. I tried it - the system starts to act like it was out of order.
7. Solved another undocumented problem with Xital GSM. If there was both a microphone input and a siren, I personally expected an algorithm from the system where, when I called to turn on the microphone, the siren would turn off for this time, otherwise you wouldn’t hear a damn thing with its screams. An, that was not the case. Yells non-stop. I had to put a time relay in the siren circuit. Now - the siren screams for 5 seconds, then is silent for 5 seconds (both numbers are adjustable), etc. all 2 minutes of her work. You call the microphone and then every 5 seconds after 5 you can listen to what is happening there. However, if the microphone and siren are located in different rooms, then perhaps all this will not be necessary.
8. I found another problem with Xital GSM: You can set the temperature range of the heater only in whole numbers of degrees, fractional ones are ignored. So, maintaining temperature in front of people is not comme il faut.
9. Found a technical error: They write that the “accuracy” of temperature sensors T2 and T3 is 0.5 degrees (T1 - 1.5°C). This is wrong. 0.5°C is a display discrete, and the total error (including this discrete) is guaranteed to be greater, but what is unknown, they do not write. The absolute error is important, for example, when you measure the temperature on the verge of freezing of water in the system, i.e. about 0°C. And so - it doesn’t matter. The system contains a DS1820 sensor, and its error at temperatures of 0-30°C is systematic and equal to minus 0.2°C. True, this is a typical (average) error, and its spread from sensor to sensor is not indicated. I think that no more than +-0.3°C. Thus, the absolute error of Xital GSM for 0-30°C will be 1°C. Quote: “The most attractive thing is that such a thermometer is already calibrated at the factory, the guaranteed accuracy is ±0.5°C in the range of –10. +85°C and ±2°C over the entire operating temperature range. A typical temperature measurement error curve is shown in the figure.”
10. Another thing: if at the moment the siren screeches you turn off the power to Xital GSM, then after turning it on the siren will want to finish its “hard-earned” 2 minutes.
11. I talked with Xital’s technical support service and received answers to the following questions: * What does “disabling control after 4 operations” mean? — 4 times between settings for control, or power off. * Does Xital-GSM have 12V power protection? — Yes, an electronic, recoverable semiconductor “fuse” operates at 200mA+-20%. Holding current is approximately 20mA. In the event of a power short circuit, all sensors will operate. * Is it possible to change the firmware? - Yes. * What expansion units are there for Xital-GSM? — There are 2 options — 8 inputs + 4 relays, 8 relays, and in all options additional. bus for temperature sensors. Including radio communication with the base unit.
12. Information from Stased: When installing a Xital-GSM thermal sensor on a metal, its breakdown may occur (AA: apparently, if this metal is under potential), then the broken sensor can block the data transmission bus, after which the Xital GSM-8T may not see neither the reader nor the sensors themselves. Check - remove both sensors, Xital GSM-8T should be visible to the reader. The manufacturer recommends electrically insulating temperature sensors from conductive surfaces (although this is not stated anywhere in the instructions).
13. SIM cards have the Norma parameter (either 0 or 1). There is no this parameter in the instructions. If Norma = 0, then this means that the SIM card used was NOT empty, and this is a violation of the instructions. The result is an unpredictable mess in the operation of the system. Then you will have to erase EVERYTHING from the SIM card and reinitialize it EXACTLY according to the instructions. I do not recommend replacing 0 with 1. I think that this will not give results, because... The Norma parameter, apparently, is not a command, but a purely informational parameter - “they say, comrade, you initialized SIM card badly - forward, with songs and dances.”
14. If there is poor contact between the temperature sensor and the bus, the sensor outputs exactly +85°C, or - depending on which of the three contacts there is no connection. Here on the same topic from me to the developers - Correct wiring of Xital-GSM thermal sensors.
15. With any command to change information in the SIM card cells and the need to use information from the SIM card, the system switches to the main SIM card, makes these changes in it (uses the information) and, if possible, remains on it.
16. I store SMS messages prepared in advance in the Phone Templates folder in the form of SMS templates. At the end of such a template, you can write a short comment, separated by a space, about what this command does. I won’t be too lazy to copy one of my templates: “Temp.R=+22 password For T3, veranda.” It is in this form that I am sending this SMS. Apparently what follows the password is filtered out by the Xital GSM program.
Conclusion from 2022: Well, if I am a former prof. the developer of electronic systems chose the Xital-GSM system for installations, then what do you think - did I like it or not? __________

BOILER CONTROL BY GSM
Remote control of boilers, whether gas or electric, is implemented somewhat differently. Here we are dealing with a coolant, which provides a certain temperature in the home. As a rule, water is used for these purposes, less often - antifreeze, ethylene glycol and others.
Please note that to use the GSM node most effectively, a digitally controlled boiler is required.
As a result of stopping the boiler operation, there is a high probability of defrosting the system, which entails undesirable consequences. In addition, pipes may be damaged, leading to flooding of premises
Therefore, it is extremely important that the user receives notifications when the boiler is turned off
Based on this, it is necessary to implement control of the gas or energy supply and the state of the coolant temperature. In general, you can save money by installing equipment for the boiler comparable to what was described just above, adding only a thermometer to measure the water temperature. By setting an algorithm for maintaining a certain temperature, the owner will be notified if it drops sharply, which means something is wrong with the boiler or gas/electricity supply.
However, it is advisable to purchase specific boiler solutions (these are usually marked) to ensure you are aware of any change. This may include various sensors, for example carbon monoxide, alarms for the presence or absence of gas/electricity, you can even purchase a pressure sensor.
It is advisable to use an autonomous power source to obtain information about the operation of the boiler during power outages. Advanced solutions can detect boiler leaks and breakdowns.
Installation of Xital on site with a Protherm boiler
We often receive orders for connecting a GSM unit to control a Protherm boiler, which is why this article was written. The main task was to make it as reliable as possible and as inexpensive as possible.
The Xital GSM 4T system was chosen as the main control unit. This system is distinguished by increased reliability and the presence in the kit of everything necessary to connect the boiler; moreover, the Xital system has been serving its owners for a long time. At the same time, the price of the product is not high, the system is easy to use and completely satisfies customers.
Additionally, a 1.2 Ah battery has been ordered, which is sufficient for boiler control systems, as well as an installation box for aesthetic and safe installation of the system and connections inside the wires.
The installation process with photographs is directly described below.
To begin installation, select the most convenient location to place the mounting cabinet with the necessary equipment. In this case, the best place for this is directly next to the boiler. This ensures minimization of the laying of cable routes and an aesthetically pleasing appearance of the boiler room.
After installing the mounting box, the Xital GSM system is installed inside the box. We use the most suitable boxes for the size. In addition to the central unit, they contain additional equipment (battery, socket for connecting the power supply), and the connection wires are also conveniently located.
Connection of Protherm boilers to Xital is carried out according to the standard scheme (connection diagrams to Protherm boilers). In this case, Xital plays the role of an external thermostat, turning the boiler heating on or off at the necessary moments. All electrical connections are made only when the power to the boiler and the Xital system is turned off. Failure to comply with this simple requirement can lead to disastrous consequences.
As you can see in the image, inside the mounting box there is a socket with a power adapter.
Having completed all the electrical connections, the mounted system is tested and pre-configured to work with a SIM card. The setting is standard for most types of Protherm boilers.
After successful completion of the test run, the battery is connected and the front panel of the boiler and Xital system is closed.
Finally, the mounting box is closed, creating an aesthetically pleasing and safe-to-use system.
The use of lockable boxes prevents children from accessing the Xital system for their safety. It also prevents accidental disconnection of the battery or power supply.
Finally, users are trained by the GSM system to control the boiler in various modes (day/night, comfort, economy). The official Xital application was installed on smartphones for convenient operation.
The entire installation process took no more than 2 hours and in the end a working system was obtained that fully satisfied the customers.
Today, remote control of a boiler is not only convenient and relatively cheap, but if you take into account the energy savings with proper use, it is also profitable.
