One of the highest quality geysers is the Bosch geyser, but like any mechanism it can fail. Let’s look at the main malfunctions of Bosch geysers.
Very often, the inability to connect to a central hot water supply does not allow you to provide your home or office with decent comfort. Fortunately, modern gas equipment allows you to create your own heating system. But even despite the fact that problems with geysers occur less frequently than interruptions in the central water supply, you must always be prepared for such a situation and detect a breakdown in time.
Why does the gas heater click but does not light up?
If a cracking sound is heard, but the gas water heater does not ignite
, try replacing the batteries - this is a very common reason for the lack of ignition (a weak spark makes normal ignition impossible).
Owners of speakers
with piezoelectric ignition need to make sure that the igniter is working.

Beginning of work
Before turning on the BOSCH geyser, you need to make sure that the gas and water valves are open. To understand how to light a Bosch gas water heater, you need to determine what type of ignition it has. You can find out what kind of ignition your water heater model has in the operating instructions.
There are three ways to ignite Bosch speakers:
- Piezo ignition. It is used in such Bosch models as WR 10-2P, W 10-2 P, WR 13-2P, WR 15-2 P.
You need to press the power adjustment slider on the front panel, and at the same time press the piezoelectric ignition button from below. After a few seconds, the wick lights up, you need to release the slider and select the desired power level (to the right - more heating). Then the water supply is adjusted using the knob on the right. This type of ignition is called semi-automatic.
- Electric ignition. Used in the following models of Bosch water heaters: W 10 KB, WR 15-2 B, WR 10-2 B, WR 13-2B. First of all, you need to install two “R20” batteries with a voltage of 1.5 V into the battery compartment at the bottom.
There is an LED on the front panel that indicates the charge level. After installing the batteries, press the power button on the speaker. In order for the water heater to work, just turn on the hot water tap.
- Hydro turbine. Installed in Bosch WRD 13-2 G, WRD 10-2 G, WRD 15-2 G models. In this case, the column ignites automatically due to water pressure. To get started, simply open the tap and, if the water pressure is strong enough, the water heater will automatically start working.
Membrane and gas block
This is no longer a popular reason why the Oasis gas water heater does not light up. If there is deformation or signs of wear on the membrane, the burner will not ignite. The point here is the principle of the membrane. When water enters the system, pressure is applied to the membrane. It affects the gas valve - it must open and supply gas to the column burner.
If there are problems with the membrane, then experts recommend replacing it with silicone. They are believed to be more durable.
No ignition
If for some reason the column does not light up at all, you should first check the battery that powers all the electronics (including the piezo ignition system).
When operating the water heater from a built-in generator, you should make sure that the piezoelectric element is in good condition, as well as that there are no breaks in the supply wires. In addition, it is necessary to inspect the electrode (wick) for damage.
The same actions are performed when the power supply is working properly. If it turns out that the battery is very weak or leaking, you should simply replace it. If there is no clearly visible external damage, you need to check the condition of the ignition elements with a multimeter. Use it to ring the supply wires and the start button. If they are working properly, a sound signal will be heard; if there is an open circuit, the device will show an infinitely high resistance.
The same device, switched on in voltage measurement mode, checks its presence at the input contacts of the ignition element. The presence of a certain potential on them indicates that all parts are in working order, except for the piezoelectric element.
Possible problems and their solutions
A Bosch column may not light up for several reasons:
- The batteries are low. In this case, there may even be the sound of the igniter igniting, but the spark power is not enough to ignite. There is a battery charge indicator on the front panel of Bosch speakers. When it starts flashing, it means they need to be replaced. In this case, you should buy new batteries and install them in the special compartment below.
If the batteries are cheap, they will run out quickly. This is why it is advisable to buy expensive alkaloid batteries; they can last up to two years without replacement.
- Weak traction. Over time, the hood becomes clogged. If the draft is weak, then a special sensor overheats, the protective relay is activated and the Bosch gas water heater goes out. You can check the draft by holding a lit match to the chimney. If the flame deviates, it means the draft is good.
You can fix the problem by cleaning the chimney of dirt. To avoid future flame extinguishing for this reason, you need to check the draft force once every three months. For proper air circulation, the water heater should only operate with the vent open.
If cleaning the chimney yourself does not help, it means that it is clogged somewhere higher in the wall. In this case, you will have to call specialists for cleaning.
- Low water pressure. If the water pressure is too weak, it may not be enough and the Bosch gas water heater will not ignite. The protection is triggered, which is necessary so that the flame goes out when the tap is turned off.
There are two main reasons. The first is clogging of the strainers with lime deposits. To eliminate it, you need to clean or replace the input filters and do this regularly in the future.
The second reason is low water pressure in the water supply. In this case, you need to reduce the water flow regulator on the front side of the device with the water turned on until it lights up. But the regulator is not present on all models of Bosch water heaters.
- Low or no gas pressure. Also, the Bosch dispenser may not turn on due to lack of gas. This can be checked by turning on a gas stove in parallel. If there is no flame or the flame is too small, you should contact your home's utility company.
- Radiator contamination. When gas burns, soot is released, which over time clogs the heat exchanger radiator. In this case, you need to disassemble the Bosch housing, remove the heat exchanger and carefully clean the radiator. It is important not to damage the thin copper pipes to avoid leaks.
- In a Bosch water heater with piezoelectric ignition, the igniter may become clogged. It can be cleaned with steel wire by disassembling the column first.
During operation, the Bosch column goes out if you dilute hot water from the water heater with cold tap water using a mixer. The flow of cold water reduces the pressure of hot water. It is recommended instead to set the water temperature to a comfortable level in advance.
- Electronics failure. Also, the cause of the wick extinguishing may be a problem in the electronic part of the column. The traction sensor, water overheating sensor, or any other electrically powered part may become faulty.
In models such as Bosch WRD 13-2 G, WRD 10-2 G, WRD 15-2 G, there is hydrodynamic ignition, which consists of an electrical circuit and a generator, which can also fail.
If your Bosch water heater does not work due to a faulty electronic part, you need to call a specialist. The simpler the design of the water heater, the less likely it is to break down.
Troubleshooting the automatic protection system
- Repair of geyser and thermal protection relay. To check the functionality of the thermal fuse, you need to remove the terminals and short-circuit them with each other with some metal element. For example, you can use a paperclip. The malfunction will be eliminated if the geyser starts working normally and does not overheat.
- Checking the serviceability of the column solenoid valve. If the first option does not correct the problem, then you need to check the operation of the solenoid valve. Such a valve has a resistance of 0.2 ohms. To check the solenoid valve, you must perform the following steps: apply voltage to the winding with a power of 20 to 30 mV at a current of 100 mA. This mode can be easily created with a 100 m resistor or a AA battery. Next, you need to light the wick and remove your hand from the gas control knob. The wick should burn, and after disconnecting the battery it should go out. In this case, the solenoid valve works properly. If all elements work properly, then the reason is a malfunction of the thermocouple. If there are no external signs of problems, then the thermocouple needs to be replaced with a new one.
- Repair of the gas water heater igniter. You can try cleaning the nozzle or air supply hole with a thin wire. After this, the igniter should start working. After some time, the nozzle becomes clogged with soot. Therefore, the flame becomes insufficient, which means the fire may go out and not ignite. As a result, gas accumulates and an explosion may occur. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the igniter. If there is not enough oxygen in the gas mixture, the burner will burn yellow. To eliminate this problem, you need to clean the holes in the igniter so that enough oxygen can flow.
It is always necessary to accurately determine the reason for the extinguishing of the gas water heater igniter. When a thermocouple or other burner elements fail, you need to be careful.
If you cannot make repairs yourself, then it is better to contact specialists. After all, improper repair of a gas burner can lead to serious consequences.
Repair of a gas burner with automatic protection system
Let's consider the more serious problems of extinguishing a geyser, which has an automatic protection system.
The gas in the igniter must burn continuously, regardless of the position of the tap valves, water supply mixers and handles. The following elements are built into a geyser with a conventional automatic protection system: a temperature fuse, a thermocouple and a solenoid valve. If the igniter is clogged or the thermocouple does not work, then the wick of the geyser goes out, as the protection system is triggered.
After you stop holding the gas control knob, the pilot light goes out. In this case, the automation system does not work. To repair such a problem, you need to have a good understanding of how the protection system unit works. If you do not understand this, then it is better to invite a specialist to fix the problem.

Fault prevention
What should I do to ensure that the water heater works as long as possible and there are no problems with ignition? Most problems with the ignition of a Bosch column can be avoided by following operating and safety rules.
Here are the main ones:
- When installing a Bosch geyser, it is important to consider the presence of a good chimney and ventilation in the room. Be sure to open the window slightly while the water heater is operating.
- Regularly carry out inspections and checks of traction force, filter contamination and radiator cleanliness.
- Do not mix cold water with hot water.
- Do not load the column as much as possible. Bosch speakers can heat water up to a temperature of 68 degrees. But for use at home, 30-45 degrees is enough. High temperatures sharply reduce the service life of the column and contribute to its rapid contamination with soot.
- Install additional water filters at the inlet to reduce clogging of the water heater system.
Chimney draft
This is one of the reasons why the gas water heater does not light up. If the main burner of the device suddenly stops lighting, then it is recommended to check the chimney, it may be clogged. A large accumulation of soot inside the chimney, various construction debris, leaves from the street - all this can clog the chimney so that carbon monoxide mixed with air returns back to the column. This will cause attenuation. You won't be able to light it.
Also, a clogged or clogged chimney can lead to carbon monoxide entering the apartment or house, which can lead to serious poisoning.
Modern dispensers from Bosch, Beretta, Ariston and other manufacturers have special sensors that constantly monitor the draft level in the chimney during operation of the dispenser. If suddenly there is no traction, then the supply of fuel (in this case, gas) will be automatically stopped. This is why the gas water heater, Bosch, for example, does not light up.
You can check for yourself whether there is traction. To do this, bring a burning match to the hole in the speaker body. If the match flame is deflected, then the chimney is working properly. If the flame does not move at all, then the ventilation system is clogged. It is better to turn off the column and not use it until the chimney is cleaned.
The column lights up and goes out
Many owners of gas water heaters would like to know why the gas water heater lights up and goes out.
The reasons for such unsatisfactory performance may be weak traction. In this case, the emergency system stops the fuel supply and the pump goes out. If the traction is in perfect order, then the emergency relay is too sensitive. You can temporarily solve the problem with an intense air flow - to do this, open all the windows. But the part needs to be changed.
